Hiya 28...nice to hear your report again...
The charts and forecasts are suggesting some monsoonal action for us starting next week...
Time to get my act together and get the spraying and mowing done before then...I'm feeling so lazy though and I'm really feeling the heat this year...

Apparently Mount Isa had 115mm yesterday and are now subject to flooding. There is also a depression in the Nth Hemisphere that seems to be stealing some of the moisture.

Smell strange a mix of rain that hasn't happened with smoke.

I was watching that one form over the last couple of days, should be sending moisture our way not building and stealing it. And yes great rain for the Isa.. A few not really showers , just heavy clouds, drifting through today, wetting things but not really, just adding to the overall stickyness of today. Been and slashed all the fence lines on the roads, and put a couple of tanks of poison out so the place looks tip top. See if can get a couple more out tomorrow morning. Cheers |

I have a you-beaut fancy weather station my family gave me - but I need to put a post in somewhere then try to assemble the complicated thing. Nicely overcast this morning. A fresh 26°. Yesterday afternoon we had about 6 splatters on the windscreen about 5km from town...lol.
Is Cairns radar still dodgy? At approx 250km, just west of us, the blue/white stuff looks truncated.
Hope everyone has a great Christmas day.

Well that was a welcome storm. 86mm and still raining lightly. A couple of cells went right over Holloways.
Went out to water the veggie garden just after midnight, and it was raining lightly then, so I took a punt that it may get heavier, and it certainly did that. Might be the start of some follow up rains from here on in.

This page indicated we should have had rain yesterday & today. It was wrong... http://www.bom.gov.au/jsp/watl/rainfall/pme.jspLate morning/early afternoon it was black to the east and black to the west with a few flashes & rumbles from each side, but piggy in the middle again and no result. At least the temperature and humidity has been nice. Just the way I like it. Not too hot, & not too dry. Hopefully we'll catch up what we rain missed in the next few days.

That is a good fall YS, very nice. :)
No big falls up here yet, I had to put the boat in on Christmas evening in the middle of a good down pour and go to pick up the Mrs , cause the ferry shut @ 16:30.. Good thing for bilge pumps, lol By the time we were on the run back up the river it had cleared to be a beautiful evening out on the river and if the dog and I weren't soaked we would of stayed on the water a while.
Rains should start to reach you soon 28.
Cheers

Was like that here yesterday. Overcast & dampish generally today, with 6mm early afternoon. Just started sprinkling again. We haven't had weather like this in the entire ten years I've lived here. Nice change.

Be nice out there on a cooler wet day :)
With 11mm this morning it brings me to 3539mm for the year of 2020. A bit below my average of 4133mm which will drop when I get around to setting out next years chart.
Best wishes to everyone for the year ahead, lets hope 2021 is an improvement.
Cheers

Well, The final stats for this year are in. December managed to scrape in 157.6mm, most of which fell in the last 10 days while we've been away. The yearly total just 1315.2mm, bringing the 7 year avg down to 1862mm
Fair chance most of us will score a measurement for the first day of the year.
Might dust off the camera and lightning trigger after I've caught up on a couple of days worth of jobs, and enjoy the best time of the year! |
Records for 2022: 1520mm 2023: 2710mm 2024: 951.6mm (no records April-Sept) |

Not much point in the yearly total for Chillagoe. Most of it fell this month!
Rain started late, in January, with a few storm showers. I was away from 15th January to 16th February - completely missed the Wet...(they told me it rained). There were maybe 10-12 storm showers after I got home.
Mid-November had a fall of 1.5mm and a nice 10mm. We've had 10 days of rain in December. The rest feels like it's been mostly overcast, & often with sprinkles that don't register in the gauge. November-December total is 215mm.
The creek is running again, quite a shock to see moving water.
Desperately hoping my mower man will be back next week. This place goes from bare dead do-nothing-to-it grass for most of the year, to totally out of control, within a couple weeks.
And, The Road... Who know what it will be like when I go to town on Monday.
At least some of the worst slush parts have been sealed, but there's still 12.5km left. It's not as if it's a big spend at $9 million, comparatively speaking.
Wonder if marakai will re-emerge soon. Who else are we missing?
Wonder what 2021 will bring us. I'm exceptionally grateful to be living in this region, where the outside world can cease to exist if we want it to, mostly.
Have a great night tonight if you're partying.
