This scenario with Alfred in SEQ reminds me a bit of Cyclone Joy in late 1990. It sat to the NE of Cairns for a couple of days with the media saying we were all doomed. Big difference though was Joy was Cat4.
Edit 2155: JTWC now saying 40kt when passing Moreton Island so it's not looking to bad.
