Huge weather event here I ripped out 15mm yesterday arvo and my 280mm gauge was near the very top this morning will add it all up later still raining.

Question for you guys my rain gauge supposedly holds 280mm. The lid which has the cone where the rain drips into the 25mm funnel right well the water in the outside container was higher than the bottom of the cone. I’m trying to get my head around how this works does that mean my gauge was overflowing and my data corrupted? I just don’t understand how the outer container is able to continue filling once it gets higher than the bottom of the cone where the water enters?
