Hi Aussie Girl,

The atmospheric conditions near the Coast just shredded any showers/cells due to wind ( shear) and the lack of available moisture, as a result the cells or shower bands die out quickly, and as seen on the radar, they either show up as light showers or more likely than not, Virga.

Virga is rain, snow or sometimes small hail that falls but does not hit the ground. It evaporates as it fallls, sometimes at high altitudes and sometimes at lower altitudes.

Here is a simple explanation below of Virga

Here is one of the photos I took of snow Virga a few years back. They look i pressive due to the reflection of the sun on the ice. I have a lot more but not on this device.
