Happy New Year everyone.

27mm in the gauge this morning, 124 in the last 4 days. The sun is out so far today. We ended with 3071.5mm for the year which is well up on the 2011-2022 average of about 2250mm.

Great falls on the Cassowary Coast again, I see another 413mm at Cowley Beach. The event seemed to be very coastal, Yarrabah received 276mm out of that blob yesterday morning.

Dec: 282.5mm
2025: 3071.5mm
2024: 3453mm
2023: 3334mm

Had a sunny day today and the burb is full of the sound of lawnmowers. After 5 weeks away the grass was in need of a little attention. Got rid of approximately eleventy billion grass seed heads

24mm in the gauge here this morning also from a heavy shower late yesterday arvo. Sunshine so far today. Looks like the T'ville areas turn last night with 200+ totals.

Jan: 24mm
YTD: 24mm

Edit: Trivia- There are more official raingauges on Magnetic Island than in Cairns City.

Happy New Year guys..!

I spent the day with the boy up the creek patching the pipe and regaining siphon for out water supply...was a 6.5 hour job and whilst in the gorges we got a hellish thunderstorm...thankfully no great river rise and hopefully we have fixed it properly...Dont want to do it again anytime soon..all itchy and cut up tonight from wait-a while and pandanus..

Hope things are getting better Bunyip..

and weary is the cat taking off a good thing or bad thing...?

Was supposed to get an ammo delivery from Townsville yesterday but its rescheduled to tomorrow because of the rain down there...man they have had a couple of good starts to the wet seasons down there this year and last...

SM I don't know how but we have had the same falls again :)

Just 16mm from that great storm yesterday arvo. I had spent the day doing house work and the sweat pouring out of me was insane.
But walls washed & floors done, ceiling fans cleaned ect ect 4 loads of washing ....
The lightning on the back of that storm was some of the best I've watched in ages, a real light show, would of been good an hour
or 2 later in the dark, but still mighty impressive.

Thanks Scott , on the improve... Bit fancy getting ammo deliveries mate, I've got to roll my own or go shopping lol :)

Well forecast looks good with rain every day for the next week or so,

Cheers

A nice coincidence there Bunyip. Hopefully a lot more of the same in the next few days.

The GFS has a low or cyclone in the Coral Sea next week. Could be interesting.

The rain started to get a smidge heavier so i took a squiz at the radar...man there is certainly some moisture about..Daintree through to Cairns looks like you are getting some stormage moving through from the west and just offshore is oodles of rain..gee i hope it just doesnt converge on the coast...Man these past few wet seasons are real doozies arent they..!

Hey weary at least your cat just hides in the house during festivities...i feel for all the poor doggo's that run off in a panic and become lost..

Yeah SM I'm not liking some of the cyclone forecasts ..even a low could bring crazy rain with all this moisture around...

Bunyip getting handgun ammo is nearly impossible down here...paid $43 for a box of 9mm in innisfail recently..Basically its Cairns, Townsville or Mareeba and even then its hard to find affordable stuff..Last year I went through over 10k rounds of .22 ammo...I'll likely do that much again this year split between mostly .22 and 9mm..

So i was pretty lucky to get some good deals on bulk ammo from Halls in Townsville...$20 per 50 for 9mm so I grabbed 3K of them and i can get .22 for $6 a box of 50 for lots of 1600..A fella there named Evo sorted this out and dropped it off on his way through to Cairns which is fantastic service as I'm lucky to get to Cairns or Townsville once a year at most and then its probably on a bloody sunday anyway....i grabbed some reloading components as well for 9mm ..

Spring -loaded at mareeba also do great deals on ammo.

IPSC is cancelled tomorow due to wetness..bugga.all this ammo and no place to shoot it lol...

17mm in the gauge here overnight. The radar last night looked like it would have been more than that. It's been a steady 7 days with daily totals between 16 and 39mm.

The latest GFS has the risk of a cyclone in the Coral Sea next week downgraded for the time being.

That ammo will keep you busy for a while Scott.

Well another 24mm in the gauge this morning. :)
More talk of weather to come in the week ahead. All the pages are starting to run with a whirly next weekend.

Yeah Scott , ammo is getting out of hand with the price rises, need to shop where they look after us and when can get a deal.
Very good service getting a delivery and shows that building a relationship with our suppliers is key.
What press you running ?
I use Mareeba a lot and Alan @ shooting supplies in Cairns, I should have a look at what used to be CRM now they have
changed hands. I stopped shopping there after spending 7k one day and then not getting a discount on some ammo, I made
it clear why I was taking my coin somewhere else.

Well it's taken all morning but the sun has broken through now and I can feel the day building :)

Cheers

Could be an interesting one. GFS in Windy has that system travelling through the Gulf country, NT, Kimberley, and looking like a cyclone around Broome.

Hi All,

Any chance you can stop the discussion about 'Guns' ..... There must be more appropriate Chat forums to cater for this.

Find it pretty sickening particularly in light of recent events.

It's Off topic and therefore back to 'Weather would be great'.

HNY to All 2026!!!

cheers
