Looks like a couple of bands coming through your way tonight. Hope you do well  BSCH stormcast GFS CAPE is indicating activity in SEQ tomorrow BOM forecasts for tomorrow ( saturday )for towns is showing widespread chances for storms in many regions of SEQ. From the border right up to Gympie and out west of the ranges. So pretty much a good day to learn more about storms.  Here is a CAPE forecast

Nice little cell just passed over Karara heading this way. They usually slide south from this direction so we will see. Flashes and rumbles to our west.

Great stuff Kazza. I guess you have possibly forgotten what the sound of rain on the roof sounds like. It has been a while since a good drop up where you are! Pretty much; I've left the garden to its own devices. Whatever survived can stay; the rest will be replaced very soon with better choices. One thing I have noticed about the natural world around here, in just one week we've had snakes coming out everywhere. Saw 2 dead on the road just down the road from here (in the town area) and someone has already been hospitalised with a snake bite also. Several other sightings around the facebook posts also. Interesting to see them coming out so swiftly but it mimics the weather I guess.

That cell passed right over us for a change. I am guessing around 4-5mm? A few good CG’s too. Not much wind. So good to hear the sound of thunder again! Not bad for September. Certainly not bad given the current dry conditions discussed.

A little drizzle tonight but very little in it so far. Near average temperature today, though was a little warmer today. The temperature rose and fell numerous times with the passing clouds with higher cloud cover in the afternoon. Dew point was close to average, though rose and fell a few times and currently stable at 14 C. Near average relative humidity and a little variable in the afternoon. Great to see some inland areas receiving rain. Kingaroy and Warwick were in huge need, so wonderful to see reports of rain there. Only very trace amounts here, which has mostly been from a lucky shower that lasted a few minutes. ACC r precip' signal only for Sunshine coast , hinterlands and north of today. Hervey Bay and Maryborough looking very promising.
BOM has possible storm for Coollngatta . So l suspect some model disagreement here. Which at short notice is probably not common.
I think GFS had the activity further south near the border. I would think covering all bases is wise.

I think GFS had the activity further south near the border. I would think covering all bases is wise. I think today looks more complicated than it may otherwise seem. It still looks like the drier westerly flow will invade most heights of the atmosphere with just some marginal moisture in the midlevels and near the coastal fringe with the afternoon seabreeze trying to push in, as well as a midlevel inversion. In fact, the only favourable things I can see which have the potential to overcome these is 1) the majority of models producing at least a bit of precip and lightning, 2) the cold air aloft and 3) the sunny morning skies allowing for good heating. Any convection would have to overcome the midlevel inversion and marginal moisture first to grow tall enough for any extensive thunderstorm activity (including any severe ones) to occur.... if they can't, a lot of them would just stay as showers. It's hard to beat the more reliable models these days though so will be interesting to see how localised or extensive any activity will be. Edited by user Saturday, 28 September 2019 9:26:16 AM(UTC)

Things are warming up quite nicely here and already 26 degrees, with clear blue skies. Fingets crossed for a bit of rain with the added bonus of a sound and light show.

Well done stormcast GFS. We have storm cells arriving near the Tweed. I have been ignoring the cell to our SW emerging this morning , and ignoring the sultry stormy feel in the air and the condensation cloud coming out of the fridge.
The dog comes in to sit near my leg and l say could have heard a clap of thunder. They have good senses. I haven't heard any claps yet.
Certainly a stormy sky to our SW and radar says yes.

Been warming very quickly today and have risen 2 C in the last hour at just under 33 C presently. Dry W to NW winds, some W to SW and the dew point been falling steadily is currently 10 C.
I see many cumulus towers trying to go up but it is obvious that they are hitting the inversion. This morning sounding looked good for instability but not so good with dry westerly flow and the inversion evident. Here's hoping we can score something out of this. |

I think the airport cams are just about the only reliable ones left. Nice shot from Coolongatta airport looking west here l think. Captures the cumulus updraft and the dry brown grass from our drought nicely. 24.5 deg c at 12pm coolongatta before the dense cloud cover dropped the temperature 2 deg. 16 deg dew point with an onshore North Easterly Black core in that Brunswock head area cell on the coast. Things are getting nasty . Fast rising convection

Here is another shot from Coolongatta airport . The sun blocked by stormy cell and lots of clear air in between these cells. I guess it shows the importance of good clearance for solar induced convection. and the link https://airportwebcams.n...ld-coast-airport-webcam/
