A few rumbles of thunder and a shower with huge rain drops. It looks from the radar that there is more where that came from

Just starting here Pabloako. I have put my car out on the drive to finally get rid of some of the dust that is covering it. A few rumbles too.

Yes. Well this isn't disappointing. Even a swarm cluster running from Toowoomba to Redcliff ,Caboulture way. They've got a bit of pace about them. I just found the Caloundra cam. I will have a look.

Most of the action is managing to stay within this area in this thunderstorm script output (between 9am today and 9am tomorrow)... so far at least anyway. The magenta contour = areas where some ingredients exist for stronger storms.

Here is a copy of today's 00z weather balloon for Brisbane. It shows the Midlevel inversion that Ken mentioned this morning.

Thanks Ken. I just love those satellite picture overlays. The cumulus convecting measles out west is always intriguing..
Thanks Pabloako for the sounding. How can you tell there is a mid level inversion from the sounding?? I know mid level is about 500hPa

Quite cloudy and the temperature has fallen to 28 C. The dew point have suddenly risen and now is 15 C with winds now light E to SE.
There are cells to my north where I can see quite high cloud coverage and one small lone cell to the SW trying to get here. |

Just starting to get a little bit of rain in the western suburbs, no thunder yet, all coming from that cell NW of Archerfield. Was out about an hour ago and a few cells lining up to the west and north west. Hopefully we will get something more than a tease today.

Been working like mad here but have been keeping an eye on the sky. Had some beautiful towers build around 13:20. Now we have a few flashes and rumbles. This morning sounding had enormous amounts of instability but a fairly dry spot. I know Pabloaka posted the sounding but I will post this morning from the Brisbane airport. And WZ storm tracker before my subscription expires. |

I tried playing with my camera and the setting in the lighting photography forum and I have managed to get 250 of the same picture, just no lightning in any of them. I did manage to capture a blury image of the back side of a kookaburra, mid-flight though! Back to topography school for me. 2.4mm here, so not much rain, but very welcome.

Thanks Colin. I don't find your shots boring at all!!. In fact very interesting .
The tweed action has died off . With no rain here
Awesome sat pic Ken.
Some great stuff coming from those aero cams. I am meant to be doing maintenace today but great weather watch prohibits such.
The region is still in troughing territory tomorrow , Sunday with absolutely no precip' signal. But after ACCr failure to capture this storm activity (cape)nearer the border l am open to viewing GFS stormcast for tomorrow?Edited by user Saturday, 28 September 2019 3:12:04 PM(UTC)

Here is the latest RGB image from Himiwari8, take about 15 minutes ago. Still some fires to the south of the trough in NSW and I love the way you can clearly see the cloud tops. Impressive considering the satellite is so far away!

For the cell approaching Caloundra a severe thunderstorm warning has been issued: Quote:Severe Thunderstorm Warning - Southeast Queensland for DAMAGING WINDS and LARGE HAILSTONES
For people in parts of Sunshine Coast and Moreton Bay Council Areas.
Issued at 3:23 pm Saturday, 28 September 2019.
Large hail and damaging winds are likely with this storm
Weather Situation:
The Bureau of Meteorology warns that, at 3:20 pm, severe thunderstorms were detected on the weather radar near Beerburrum. These thunderstorms are moving towards the north. They are forecast to affect Caloundra, the area southwest of Caloundra and Landsborough by 3:55 pm and Maroochydore, waters off Caloundra and waters off Maroochydore by 4:25 pm.
Damaging winds and large hailstones are likely. Here the sun is back out, the clouds have cleared a lot with some cu clouds and with ac and ci clouds from distant storms. A cell to my SW faded over southern Brisbane along with another cell to the SW. Unless the cells west of the range can get to the coast then it appears no rain will be received here. The temperature have been slowly rising with the dew point remaining around 15 C (near average). Light E to NE winds have continued. Relative humidity at just under 50% after falling to 25% with the maximum temperature. |
