I'm in Cairns for the whole week, while car repaired. Weird being here and not rushing to get everything done. Relaxing for a change.

I was out shopping today at the supermarket, doing my weekly shop,- & Uncle Dan's doing my grog shop, and in all my travels
I never saw one person with a mask on. Not one.

It seems the media driven dramatisation and embellishment hasn't brainwashed the entire population. All their dramatic 'click bait' story headers to entrap
the punters and steer them toward all the adverts.

NRL only got two rounds in,- so that puts paid to watching footy on foxtel. Hearing some decent rain on the roof would be a bit of a consolation.
If the BoM forecast it, it's bound to not happen.

And another 80mm this morning with no warning or flood watch , lol ...

The DSC under state gov direction have put concrete block over the road north of Cape Trib to enforce a total road closure.
And there is Police at Mt Carbine for traffic heading north.

I heard they were closing the Cape, with police on the highway. Does that mean Cooktown is closed now too Bunyip?

Went to Office Works & Kmart after I got the hire car this morning. People mostly social distancing. Snoogies in the Main Street Arcade was open for takeaway, and probably will be tomorrow. (Good healthy food.) Noticed people at tables on the footpath in Grafton Street.

IGA at Manoora had signs saying prices had gone up on fresh produce, due to difficulties getting it,that farmers can't keep up.

The chemist next door has made their own hand sanitiser, just waiting on bottles. Ready tomorrow 25th.

Interesting to be out and about. Very quiet. Easy parking. A long queue at Centrelink, up to Grafton, and halfway to Shields. And it was raining.

So hard to believe this terrible thing is happening. And this weird weather makes everything feel stranger. Kind of spooky monsoonal blustery winds, but dry.

... Oops, started this this morning. It rained on & off this morning. And a couple showers this afternoon.

It hasn't changed my daily routine any.
Did my Supa IGA weekly shop, and my fortnightly Uncle Dan's grog shop, and no grog panic buying, and only dunny paper shelves empty at IGA.
Quite a few had bought 4 roll packs of kitchen paper towels,- so I s'pose they plan to get the serrated bread knife and halve them, and voila,- dunny paper aplenty.

Again,- no paranoid peeps with masks on. Maybe only the capital city, (& surrounds) are spooked by the media hype,- who knows.
The roads are certainly quieter, with no arvo build up from Yorkey's roundabout north to Smithy roundabout. I'm not even sure if all schools are still open.
Just about given up reading the online news. Nothing there that doesn't mention the corona crap,- even all the sports news.
I'll keep watching the classic footy games on Foxtel, and enjoying a few refreshing beverages. The world can keep turning.

Went to Specsavers this morning. Less staff working. One door in one door out. Appointments mainly, only 23 allowed in store.

Almost no-one around in Cairns Central. Although Coles looked busy.

Went up to Snoogies in the Mainstreet Arcade for a takeaway salad & fresh juice. They plan to stay open for as long as allowed, although less & less customers.

A few cafes on Grafton open, some with single spaced chairs on the footpath, no tables.

There are stallholders setting up at Rusty's, so there'll be a few of the stalwarts there tomorrow at least. I've decided to go in as usual at 5am.

Chemist shop at Manoora next to Omega medical centre is now making & bottling their own sanitiser. Hate the stuff, but theirs is really good. No extra horriblestuff in it. Spray bottle, plus refills available.

The occasional person with a mask on. Mainly Asian, but Europeans as well. None available to buy.

Lovely rain on and off all morning, city and Manoora. Nice weather to be under a roof, looking out and enjoying it.

Cant wait to get home now. Pick up the car late tomorrow, leave early Saturday morning.

Edit: on Monday I heard a second person in Cairns tested positive. Wednesday my doc said there were 8.

Home again. Rain all the way from Dimbulah, an unusual occurrence. Although there was still a section of road that kicked up dust...

8mm in the gauge last night, don't know when it happened. Not enough yesterday.

Yard needs another mow. But not so bad that I'll be desperate if I can't get anyone to do it.

Two strange police at the roadhouse. Must be for the roadblock to Kowanyama.

Grass will need a cut again.

10mm late Friday afternoon, and 3mm yesterday. Keeping it green.

Is it really Monday again? I can tell it is, by the arrival of the regular RFDS plane. And the end of March. A quarter of the year gone.

What will our world be like this time next year?
