The storm strengthened at a fast enough pace into Thursday to be classified as a bomb cyclone. For a storm to meet bomb cyclone criteria, the barometric pressure has to fall at least 24 millibars, or 0.71 of an inch of Mercury, in 24 hours.

On Wednesday, AccuWeather meteorologist Jesse Ferrell predicated that this storm may allow new pressure records to fall.

Indeed, several preliminary low pressure record were broken. Providence, Rhode Island, set a new monthly record reaching 976.3 mb at 3:54 a.m. Thursday.

Preliminary October records were also set in Boston and Concord, New Hampshire. Boston reached 975.3 mb, surpassing the previous record of 982.4, while in Concord, the pressure dipped to 973.1, breaking the old record of 980.4. The National Weather Service will ultimately determine the validity of these records.

"NOAA lists records which are over 980 mb for stations in Connecticut, Rhode Island, Massachusetts New Hampshire, and southern Maine." Ferrell said on Wednesday.

Hi. Amazing snowfall in many places in the NH
Photos on social media just splendid
Nothing like a BIG weather event to bring you back to a forum

A state record may have been broken! This week brought 44.8 ‘’ of snow to Peru, VT. If verified, this could break the Vermont state record for 24-hour snowfall! The current record is 42 ‘’ in 1995 at Jay Peak.

Good heavens another mid latitude cyclone forecast to break the Mongolian monster in play. Could get down to 920mb this weather nerd says. Gee this is kicking off 2021 in a big way in the NH.
And we still have the polar vortex split with associated stratospheric warming on the cards

Severe weather.eu is reporting some massive surface pressure anomalies of record breaking proportions in the NH.
Also reporting a 20 deg + warming anomaly over the arctic circle this week. There lies an equal and opposite cold anomaly in the Russia and Siberian areas.
This article gives a very in-depth explanation of the weather physics involved and gives heaps of anomaly pictures and animations. Amazing dialogue from these’guys’ and not one mention of global warming alarmism. Bookmark this one
Cheers🤓🤩

Record cold in China. Hasn’t been this cold since the 60’s . The government can’t cope with demand. They shouldn’t of cancelled Australian coal imports.
Wind turbines frozen.
