Well it looks to finally be heading north and that may be the end of it.
90mm in my gauge today from 06:30 so another 10 or so overnight just to round it out would do nicely
.
So a long wet windy winter or one of those post card winter ?

Erk, we're in direct line of a stream that'll last for hours before the rain relinquishes us all and we enter some sunny days (always the optimist!).

Well I couldn't of got it more wrong yesterday arvo when it looked to clear to the North. A convergence setup over us after dark and sat here most of the night
giving me another 84mm for a total of 174mm
It looks to be breaking up slowly, but still fairly heavy rain ATM.
What a week it's been.

I wonder if thats the end to the "proper" wet season...?...if so it certainly finished with a bang...wowsers..! Only 23 celcius max yesterday and the stream showers are now moving quickly east to Sou-east on the back of the high pressure systems.. Looking at the synoptic chart forecasts for the next 10 days it looks like the traditional winter tradewind pattern setting in..certainly no reef fishing weather for the next week or so at least. I know I say it every year but the next couple of months are my least favourite time of the year depending on how long the miserable windy,showery weather hangs on for .. For what its worth the BOM are suggesting below average rainfall for the next few months...No complaints from me if it happens.. http://www.bom.gov.au/climate/tropical-note/

I have never noticed anything that denotes the end of the wet season, could be cos as Scott says we tend to drift from the monsoonal stuff into SE stream showers with no clear break. Yeah Scott, it's a bugga of a time, the Makkies should start to show up real soon but getting out to them is the hard part.
Looks like the SE'erly stream showers for a while, makes it hard to get on top of the yard with the constant little falls keeping everything damp.
I think you right Weary, no clear end as such down here, unlike the NT where it just doesn't rain for the next few months, also it cools off here
where up there they still get hot days through winter.

SUN IS OUT! Very cool this morning, looks like the first sub 20c for most of us. still 4.6mm to 9am. Mackies have been around for a few weeks already according to a few reports. Not that I would know.. Edited by user Friday, 30 April 2021 8:06:03 AM(UTC)

Well i finished the month of with 976mm, the 3rd 900+mm month for the year.
YTD stands at 3901, which is 449mm more than the whole of last year!
The blanket has been officially reinstated on the bed, and it has dipped to about 18 deg over the past few days,

Gordonvale west side Oct-Apr wet season ended up 1791mm. Jan and April were the only 2 good months, the rest were well below average. |

October to April Wet Season in Chillagoe is 1238mm. Probably our best in years. Best months were December with 203.5mm, January the best 528.5mm, and February 368mm. Had 59mm in March and 65mm in April. More than I expected.

That 65mm in April must of been a real treat.
And 1238mm is a good wet for you, I'm sure the country loved getting a good drink,
lets hope it continues for a couple of consecutive seasons so it all catches up.
Showery day yesterday gave 9mm this morning :) with a heavy fog that is just
burning off to show a beautiful day.

Yes that 65mm was a pleasant surprise. It was a very good Wet, but we need a few more good ones before the land catches up.
Looking at the creek a couple weeks ago, I think it will dry up again before the next Wet. When I first came here 11 years ago someone told me it hadn't dried up for 60 years. Now it's dried up the last 4 or 5 years.
Overcast most of yesterday, but no rain out of it.
