Couple of nice, colourful squall lines on the radar overnight. Little bit of thunder rolling around early this morning. Not much eventuated though. 3.5mm here. That's a total of 8.5mm in the last 9 days.

YTD: 429mm

You had a little bit more than us Ron, exactly 50mm here. Your right about those heavy showers. A big downpour woke me out of deep sleep about 3AM. Still a few showers around today by the look of things.

YTD: 479mm

A good drop RF and SM.

We've had so many dry days now I forget to check the radar...lol.

Tried to rain yesterday afternoon. I could feel it in the air. I could smell it. But no go.

That's a nice drop Weary. It was pretty much the Cairns coast and Tableland only though that got the rain.

I watched it. Originally a single blob that *almost* reached us out here, but it shrank. 😑

We've had no rain for almost 2 weeks, I'll have to start watering again.

136mm in White Rock. Your right Weary, first time over 100mm so far this wet. Would have been some local flooding around last night I reckon.

It's crazy. That was the only rain in the region. Nothing else on the radar for hundreds of miles.

Some very intense rain bands last night 28. Came out of the blue really. Only 2mm in the gauge at dusk.

800mm for Mossman, tropo. That's pretty good. Normally in the Cairns area anything over 500 is good, 800-1000 exceptional.

Woo hoo.
Bit of rain, heavyish for a few minutes.

Power just went out with a flash & a crack, but came straight back on again. And then another flicker of the lights. Rain only light again now.

Looks pretty wild down on the coast too.

How did everyone do for the monthly totals, a decent storm last night gave me 80mm to bring me up to 685mm for the month which is not too bad but a long way off some areas around here. A family member at newell beach just north of Mossman has recorded 845mm for the month and coral sea drive in Mossman has 846mm for the month pretty impressive for these areas.

Good morning everyone.

Our power is still out, anyone else not got it back on yet.

It struggled to stay connected, lights flickered on about 5 times, then gave up.

Ergon originally stated 10 unplanned outages affecting 27,852 people.

Now apparently still 12,000 people without power. A lot of western regions still without power, although some from the previous day.

So ... rain last night 30mm.

Total for the month ... 715mm

51.5mm this morning. Nice colourful patch over Chillagoe last night 28. The rainfall pattern here was the same as the night before, nothing a dusk then moved in out of nowhere. Got fairly heavy. The monthly totals are all fairly close.

YTD: 673mm

Looks like some good rainfall totals across the whole district this month...How good is Chillagoe..!..

So going by the neighbor overthe hills gauge behind El Arish ..420mm in the past 4 days and 750mm for the month over 23 wet days...

We may even get a dry day today..was planning a couple of days a the reef but the weather is just a little too volitile and I'm told old to get caught in a lightning storm out there..particularly after having a very close strike that blew up some appliances and fuse on the house several weeks back..

What was strange was the storm front was many Km's away and just out of nowhere the hair stood up and I felt a kind of air vaccuum and huge thunder and strike....scared the [censored]out of us..

I guess it could be worse..I was talking to a fella I know that has pre-booked a holiday later this week..a good time to go and escape some of the wet-season he thought....only problem was, unfortunately, the holiday is in Auckland...

Hi folks :)
Beautiful hot steamy day here after 121mm overnight. Gets me my first 100+ day for the year, and takes me to 817mm for the month.
Had to go to Mareeba early this morning, wow it all looks so good up there, green grass waist high
and water running in most creeks, gully's and drains.

Power was out overnight for around an hour and a half, it was getting a bit steamy and I was thinking of starting the genny when it came back.
Thank you ergon workers.
Funny the biggest flash and clap was about 30mins after the power came back on :)

Lots of talk about the monsoon coming back later in the week and maybe even a whirly in Feb. Bring it on.
Plenty of trees down already just from a normal wet month.

Cheers

Power is still out here, but updates show they're working their way thru. It seems there's lots of powerlines down.

Tried to rain late morning. Tried.
