Was thinking the same thing this morning mate, whilst I sweated buckets just doing normal chores..

Had an old mate I havent seen in 30 years drop by today for lunch and a catch up ...poor bugga is from Albury/wodonga where its currently maxing out at around 20c with nights below 10c...Staying in Port Douglas its quite a shock to the system for him and the missus...

But enjoy the sun while we can...by the forecast next week is back to reality with showers, wind and more normal temps as a High starts to muscle its way in and up.....

and looks like she is a Cat 5 for the past couple of hours now...what a beast of a thing...good thing its in the middle of nowhere...Dont know about the size but it looks impressive on that water vapour chart 28...

Bunyip I might have to do the same with my one and only Rambutan tree...its was absolutely loaded a week ago..now the cockies have decimated the fruit while still green..might top it so I can more easily net it in the future..

The radar image of that cyclone off WA is amazing. Gusting to 278km at Bedout Island at the moment. A bit of rain here next week would be great.

So, the JTWCtrack for Ilsa has her as a low ending up very close to Mornington Island, wonder what the chance are of that low getting over water in the Gulf and reforming as a cyclone?

I was wondering that myself. Don't think the Gulf wants another low right now. They're still cleaning up.

7mm in 22 days here. Got to be a record for this time of year. A partial solar eclipse happening in our area on Thursday so as luck has it, it may be rainy for people who want to see that.

Still waiting on the rain. A few spits yesterday arvo as the storms that were around went passed us.


Scott, I've got 2 Lychee and they were both well over 30', took the top out of 1 last year and it has come back with heaps of growth
so did this one, this one was actually 2 trunks both a foot thick and over 30', it's now a stump with a fork. Hopefully it shoots
and over the next couple of years I can prune them both into tree's that we can net.
I also have a huge Rambutan and want to give it a trim but it is shade for the dog pen and some of our garden, It's a nice tree to sit
under and is center of that part of the yard, so we are conflicted,
But I feel the time is coming where it gets a visit from The Stihl Gang.
Then I have the Rain Tree that will get adjusted. lol

Last years Lychee is burning nicely in the pot belly, so have a heap more now to stack for next year.

We had a quickfire 84mm over a couple of hours between about 8 and 10am this morning and its moving to the north now...

Currently 27c and certainly more pleasant conditions then the past couple of weeks...

Bunyip I have been threatening to get some marcotts happening before topping the trees..but it hasent happened yet...I have a lychee and a couple of Longans which have all fruited well but never get any because of the hungry critters..i was going to top some other varieties of trees but havent been able to get a new battery for my husky pole saw for about 12 months now and just dont like chainsawing on ladders anymore......

We waste so much fruit because its too high and not netted....We got our first Marangs this year thankfully without cockie attack and they were just delicious...we also try and freeze some different pulps to make frozen smoothies from...

That rain looks like it might make it as far as us. Really built up over the last few hours. Dark grey to the east, temperature dropping slowly.

Yes, a nice break from the stinking hot we've had lately. Got too used to those lovely temperatures when it was raining.

12mm overnight here. Just caught the edge of a good storm yesterday arvo. Lots of lightning and noise between here and Gordonvale. The garden finally got a bit of a drink. It's great to have some cooler weather today.

Nice bit of excitement Sheridan Mist.

The rain did make it this far after all. Just light, not enough to soak me on my way to the compost bin and washing out the bucket.
Managed about 1mm.
Temperature dropped from almost 33 degrees to 27.3. Very nice.

Yes that storm brewed up over the top of us yesterday, flangs everywhere. Then the one from Goldsborough joined up with it. We had just under 40mm in short time, total of 54.4mm all up.
Records for 2022: 1520mm
2023: 2710mm 2024: 951.6mm (no records April-Sept)

heard a few rumbles yesterday but only got a few spits, but overnight it finally got here with 43mm
in the gauge this morning, everything looks so much happier this morning :)

Yeah Scott I'm over feeding birds and bats, cut out the 3 yellow Mangosteens, Never got anything and
they are not good like the purple. left 1 purple as is and took the top out of another, It's taken
a long time but the topped one is coming good so will probably do the other one next year.
If you want fruit you have to net and that means trees you can work with, also given me back a lot
of land.
My little saw is waiting on parts so have been pruning with my big Stihl, can't swing it around like
I used to and it seems to hurt later more than it used to , lol .. Parts should be in the mail any day.

We have been missing the rain here big time, only 4mm overnight and 7.25mm for the month..... getting dry.

Yep fruit trees all have to be topped and maintained at 3-4m i don't let most of mine grow any bigger than that except purple mangosteen as no bats or birds attack them. Rambutan get smashed by everything, cockatoos work durian over big time. My abius seem safe from birds so far.... I have bigger problems with bandicoots in dry periods than anything else they dig out young trees and dig deep into and damage the root system of bigger trees. Im surrounded by cane on 3 sides so its a war at my place.

And we've been catching it, surprisingly.

By 5.30pm we'd had 28mm - completely unexpected. And still sprinkling.

Temperature has dropped to 28degrees, and I'm feeling a bit on the chilly side... lol. Nice though. Been too hot here lately. Never thought I'd hear myself ever say that, since I moved up here for the heat.

That's a pretty good drop there 28. We've had 24.5mm for April so far. The April average for Cairns airport is about 200 so we have a bit of catching up to do. A cool SE blowing this morning.
