This is just absolute madness guys...the blob is still just sitting there right over Cairns..must be mind blowing for a lot of cairns residents and unfortunately probably will overshadow the help thats needed further north from the actual cyclone.. Thankfully the stuff to the south looks to be moving out to sea..we have only had fairy pee for the past few hours.. I even just went up for a dip at the swimming hole..the cascades are thunderous but the water is pretty clear and nice ...the dogs werent game to get in though..looks like lots of sticks and debris for them to chew up and chase in coming days.....my gravity feed pipes appear to have not been washed away at the intake as I switch back off the emergency tank there is water flow..the first 10 minutes was pretty foul water thats been sitting in the pipes for a few days....I was certainly not looking forward to almost a kilometer long hike up into the gorge to restart the flow into the 2 inch mainline....its a really difficult thing to do on my own..last time was not long after Cyclone Yasi so I have been very fortunate considering I basically just have intake just tied to an underwater rock. and Myola is at 469mm since 9am..which makes 982mm in the past 32 hours...  ..and all thats headed to Cairns... edit..just went over the metre mark in 34 hrs and about to reach 2x 500mm days in a row.. Hi All - first time posting to this forum from Port Douglas.
We've had 320mm today (to 5:00pm) since midnight.
Event total is now over 1000mm.
Lots of localised flooding. Thankfully power remains on, after a 2 day outage during Jasper.
All roads from PD to Cairns closed - likely for days.
Stay safe all.

We have just had a massive night my creek came up to a new record height. Local stations over 600mm, i emptied my gauge around 6pm yesterday and I got up at 1am and it was over flowing holds 280mm I will measure everything I have later is still pouring here. |

Wow what a night.. 715mm here and it is still falling fairly hard.
That makes 1976mm for 5 days..
This is an amazing event , I;m just waiting for the climate emergency mob to claim it as proof we are doomed :)
Same here GT, emptied the gauge a few times through the night..

Wow.wow wow....I cant even fathom 7-800mm in a day...particularly on the back of nearly a week of relentless rain...2000mm in 5 days.. I think its time for someone to send a truck down to Tully and pick up the golden gumboot and take it to its rightful home in the Daintree... Its hard to see this crazy event ever being beaten..Its certainly a record I never want to see broken down here.

No rain here today and very little wind. The silence on the roof is noticeable. The rain band appears to be still coming into the Mossman area though. Another 132mm overnight here brings me back to 2003mm for this 6 day event and just shy of 5000 for the year. Still no power and water here haven’t seen a single Ergon truck. Edited by user Tuesday, 19 December 2023 6:39:32 AM(UTC)

4mm here this morning. It could be over. The council flood cameras are showing most flooded areas receding. Edit: How ironic after all this rain. Broke down on Ray Jones Drive near the dump today. Well i rang ergon this morning aand told them the lines were down caught up in flood debris across my creek crossing.. Within the hour they cut the power and a crew arrived with a cherry picker..by the time I cleared the vegetation we were back in business...stil need to hand move about 10 tonne or so of silt and flood debris on the actual driveway next to the creek but I can at least get over it and out for now... Spent a while clearing out sprinklers and the filter on my 2 inch mainline and then of course the filter body cracked and I had to run to town for a new one..but all done and water is good again..very nice to drink as well..it was getting a bit of an aftertatse before the rain from the tannins in the water... Thats bad luck SM but mate you just need to chuck an egg in the radiator and refill...never done it but they say its good stuff as long as its the radiator and not the not the hose and of course if you have a spare egg lying around in the car.......probably RACQ is easier though...  Hope you guys have been able to get out and get a bit of cleanup done...and I hope ergon has had time to get out to your place Tropo ..though after a blow we are usually one of the last to get hooked back up as we are the only ones on this little spur line... How weird was that isolated rainfall yesterday up by you Daintree mob..that would have been just like an extra little kick in the guts that nobody needed.. Welcome Snowedin. Hi everyone. Lost power on Sunday afternoon... And a couple hours later we lost phone as well. The only people in town who had communications were those who had Starlink. Thankfully power and phone restored mid-afternoon. Glad to see everyone's okay, hope the clean-up isn't too big a job. We had 190mm for the whole event, but that's pretty good for us. Straight down rain for 5 days solid. Yesterday's gauge had 15mm; only 2mm of that was overnight, so drove to Mareeba on Monday no problems. After two hot days with blue skies my pot plants needed watering.

Hey Scott still no power or water here hoping for tommorow. We live out in the back woods here so are usually last to come online, also council etc thinks we just a bunch of rednecks who live north of the Mossman river.
I saw today some of the fancy people of port Douglas complaining they had a drop in water pressure hahahahah meanwhile they didn’t even go without power for barely 24 hours and have had water and phone and internet the whole time.
All us rednecks north of the Mossman river had no power for near 7 days no phone or internet for several days and no water for near 2 days. I would be scared to see what would happen to the people of port Douglas if they got hit by a category 5 and actually lost power for a week I reckon they would near kill eachother…… |

I'm glad everyone is doing well. Everything seems pretty standard after a major event.
Thanks Scott, the blood pressure definitely went up when stuck in the middle lane at the red light surrounded by traffic and the temp gauge was maxing out.

Hi folks :)
Actually the showers yesterday were good. It washes the silt off and keeps the mud soft till yo can get rid of it.
Be good to see a few sunny days now though.
The emergency services have finally arrived on the north side of the river, and ergon just flew the power network.
Not expecting to have power for at least another week here but we will see.

What a mess that system has caused up there. I hope you are all safe and speedy recoveries if you or your family has been affected. Just watching the news was mind blowing. Also just wondering if any of you guys have been able to post photos or screen shots for a while. I am having trouble in the NE NSW and SE QLD forum. I haven’t posted on here for some time and trying to get it up and going again in that area. Paul Atkin has created a fantastic forum just like WZ. Thanks and stay safe. Chillagoe - all is back to normal here. Except everything is green now. Hard to believe that up until the night of Jasper we'd been inhaling smoke 24/7 for weeks on end.
