Yes. It's pouring rain again. Kind of strange for me, after 15 years in the dry country, hoping for a low to sit over us for more than a few hours.

Ended up with 99mm. It never really got torrential, just steady to heavy I'd say. That big line of showers is still sitting off the coast this morning. The rain has eased here.

87mm down here with steady rain in the late arvo and night.. Really interesting must watch aussie netflix 2 part show about the murder in Larrimah..its called Last stop Larrimah, its such classic small town, aussie back-biting hilarity from a real life cast of true-blue characters that will all likely remind us of someone we have known that I couldnt take my eyes from the screen....anyone thats ever spent time in small rural towns will know what I mean...

Lol Scott. Larrimah Roadhouse 1977. Hitching to Mount Isa with 2 friends, played the joke box all night, & partied til dawn.

Its a wet start here in the bamboo valley for december, 137.25mm last night 111.5mm night before brings me up to 342mm for the month so far already and 3672mm for the year!!!! Who knows what happens the rest of the month might even make it to the big 4metres by the end of the year.
I see bunyip well over 5metres already and starting to pull away from other heavy weights babinda and tully, golden gumboot could be going back to the mighty daintree two years in a row !!!!! |

8mm here this morning, that's 310 in the last 8 days. Not bad for this early in the wet.
Looked up Larrimah, it is 430km SE of Darwin, population about 7 and has a claim to fame of a giant stubby bottle. Definitely a small Aussie country town.

Tipped out 90mm this morning and 55mm before dark last evening as I thought it may be a super wet night.. 28, you could have bought old paddy's house in Larrimah for around 30K a few months back.. SM apparently the new young publicans had a baby in larrimah which wwas the first in 40 years..maybe population is up to 8 now... Bunyip that show reminded me a little of El Arish...you know just the way people side with others against others for no particular reason other then spite and maybe boredom..you are either with them or against them even if you dont know them....i've been to the pub once in the past 25 years..I find the BS, gossip and speculation just so boring and pointless.. Howdy Tropo...hows things in your soggy neck of the woods..? Forecast saying rain is easing off tomorrow..geez its going to be steamy once the sun appears...! 23mm in the gauge this morning. Occasional short sharp showers coming though overnight and into today. That's good rain on the Cassowary Coast and Daintree again.
I think the Larrimah population was about 11 when Paddy disappeared.

Only 35mm here this morning :) bloody hot and steamy when the sun breaks through. Looking like a bit of a break for a few days, with just the chance showers.
Cheers

69mm here but only 15mm in Tully..it did appear the showers on the radar last night were coming onshore just north of Tully.. Lovely flow in the creek with whitewater all along the full face of our cascades and all the leaf litter washed away...very nice to swim in again after it was getting quite scungey lately.. So was that population of 11 before or after Paddy's murder SM...?...he sounded like quite a useless big-mouth sh!t-stirrer anyway..probably got his just deserts though it wasnt nice of old Owen to "killerate" the pup as well... A bit of sun would be most welcome at the moment bunyip...the grass needs a trim again..probably almost be able to see it growing with some sun on it though.. 42mm here this morning. Some really heavy showers yesterday. The annual total is starting to creep up towards last years 3334mm. A few days of fine weather would be nice.
I'm not sure on that one Scott, I seem to remember that number being thrown around in the media.

Finally got logged back in on the computer..sitting on about 255mm for the month now. I'm working at a place in Gordonvale with good views across the valley to the Grey peaks national park ranges there. Man I have seen some rain go through there over the years that doesn't touch an official gauge. I reckon they easily get double the rainfall of Gordonvale town itself. |

Intense storm in Cairns last night. Good lightning. Lasted about 2am for around an hour. Check it on Zoom Earth. Interesting to slide back an hour of so & watch it roll in. 12 Dec, 1:50 AM | 17.3°S 145.7°E | Zoom Earth https://zoom.earth/maps/...+10/overlays=radar,firesEdited by user Thursday, 12 December 2024 7:58:33 AM(UTC)
