The radar map is craapp. Not surprised they stopped feedback. I sent quite a few responses myself yesterday.
The actual radar *images* are better than the faded watercolour fiasco of months ago. The map is a pita on mobile.
Thankfully, there's a few other maps I use which haven't changed - yet.

8.5mm here in the last week, we're above our monthly average which is good. Hopefully a bit of rain next week by the forecast.
The new "Bureau" website is a bit disappointing. One positive is your gps location is on the radar map. Also most of my old Bom links still work.

There was a spokesperson for BOM on RN this arvo. Her basic message was that all the people who were complaining were wrong.

I do find it amusing that whenever BOM post on FB (capital city forecasts or something) it is just bombed with hundreds of negative comments re the website until they turn comments off.

Another glorious morning up here :) Cheers And no mention of the cost of setting up what appears to be a very underwhelming website...Why the lack of transparency..?...apparently its part of the $900 million Tech upgrade which also included those radar upgrades... These Government departments certainly excell at splashing our cash... Not so great at forecasting but..their longer range forecasts over the past couple of months predicted significantly wetter then average conditions for spring and besides those couple of storms you guys had a month or so back its been pretty damn dry down our way with nothing nuch predicted for the next couple of weeks either.... had a lovely couple of days camping at the islands this week though with the winds chopping and changing throughtout both day and night from the SE around the the NE and back again and then sometimes calm...

Does anyone actually have a problem with that..?..I have always had a link and one click I'm onto the 512 composite and then if I want to look closer I just hit the 256 or 128 above... Job done...

That's what I used to do Scott. But all my radar shortcut links went directly to the new page. Thank you Weary for providing this link.

I wonder how long they will support the old page.
I have changed my shortcut link back to the old, as when my laptop starts the 128km Cairns page is the first thing open. Seems like most people are using the old site, from all the sharing of that link I have seen everywhere.
Fair bit of overcast sky this morning, but it feels like it will burn off and be another cracker of a day.
Have a good one people :)
Cheers

I'm wondering too. Hope they'll realise how much people just want the map. You're supposed to be able to set favourites, but it doesn't seem to work on my phone. Just spent about 20 minutes trying to figure it out. And sending more feedback. * * * Looks like it might change the shortcut I already have on my home screen, but can't create more than one. My link now opens with a Cairns map from Ingham to Cooktown. Still have to scroll down to it. It shouldn't take this long to figure out something new. More telling us what to think, and removing the variables.

Bunyip, I think they will have to support the old site for quite a while cos much of the stuff on the new site is just links to the old site. Also their “improved” whole of Oz radar that you zoom into doesn’t support things like the Doppler or rain in the last 24 hours radar images.

9 days here now with no rain. Not much in the forecast but afternoon thunderstorms are mentioned for the next couple of days so it could be a bit of a lucky dip. "The Bureau" website is definitely harder to navigate if your in a hurry. Sending an NOAA image of Hurricane Melissa in the Caribbean. Jamaica could have a problem in the next couple of days. Oct: 99mm YTD: 2739.5mm Edit 2100hrs: Apparently the Cairns radar will be down until the end of the month. Edited by user Monday, 27 October 2025 9:07:48 PM(UTC)

It was an absolute stinker here today and very sticky as well..up to 33c around midday... and holy [censored]SM...Melissa is an absolute monster...very slow moving but she just keeps intensifying and now about 200km's off Jamaica she is 917hpa and sustained winds of 260km/h.... and likely to get close to a normal years worth of rain over just a couple of days which will cause some serious chaos on top of hellish winds and storm surge...Wow..! https://www.star.nesdis....m_XsIEK8fCVqDBAVYWuq9zbg

Yeah Scott I agree, the storms with that really black circular eye are terrifying. It's not to often we've seen them in Australian waters, luckily.

Just imagine how much better our radar would be with $4m bucks spent on it ? Out of service again :(
Yeah Scott the days are certainly warming up, and the haze has really set in now.
Cheers

yeah our latest website didnt even cost $4000 let alone $4 million...How you can spend that kind of money to set that up is just mind boggling...some design firm is laughing all the way to the bank and BOM has said they will just change it if there is enough feedback of things that need improvement.....sounds like an open checkbook for that website designer..
Few storms on the radar last night heading SW from out Chilligoe way..I could see lightning flashs to our south around midnight but only a couple of spits here..
Mellissa in now 907hPa with 280km/h sustained winds..be interesting to see if it maintains intensity and remains so slow moving once it does its expected northerly turn...

And of course the new whole of Oz radar doesn't tell you that Cairns radar is down. So it looks like there is no rain in the Cairns coverage area when anything could be happening. Edited by user Tuesday, 28 October 2025 8:41:51 AM(UTC)
