There was a tiny bit of rain when I was driving in to work this morning, through the Samford Valley and just before I got to Samform. It smelt wonderful, but only last a couple of minutes and then it was all dry again.

Still along way out, but it has been very consistent on the extended range GFS for most of this week, so I thought I would share an image Nothing to get excited about yet, but it would be bloody nice!

The pros would be able to correct me, but could this be a microburst or a down draft to cause this damage? There was both rotational winds and straight line winds, as I was at the Mooloolaba Wharf seeking shelter and was able to watch the beast. We were hit with a small tornado. You know it is bad when the power is taken out before the storm actually hits But the main damage would have been straight line winds from a microburst. At the Wharf we were just on the right handside of the main damage path. It just skimmed us fortunately but the roar of the wind was unbelievable. I was watching the vortex forming over land just to the North of the Hoggs Breath Restaurant, you could see the debris rotating very quickly, leaves, cups, paper/ rubbish etc, then it brushed the side of the Restaurant and hit the water. Once it hit the water everyone was able to see the vortex/funnel skim across the marina and hit the other side of the Wharf. ( The other shops and restaurants) there was al lot of smashing and banging of things hitting the ground etc. Then it was just a white out. If you have a look back at the last few pages you will see some photos and radar images. It sucked out a very heavy window that was bolted shut from the upstairs part of the Hoggs Breath. It sounded like a bomb going off. Been sick so haven't been back on here. I agree with rotational and straight line winds as I witnessed that here at home. Colmait, those block of units with roof torn off not far from Hoggs Breath so you were one lucky man it didn't come over you. Those wind readings would be about right in my opinion from Palm Drive which is not too far away. My son works at KMart at Maroochydore and was being picked up by his father there when storm hit and they said Maroochydore barely got anything compared to here. Energex still out working repairing damage on Tuesday. There are tree workers all over the place still cleaning up the fallen trees. Not even a quarter the way through picking up the destruction. Certainly the worst storm I have been in that's for sure.

This is the 5th attempt to reply. I am using an Ipad and Apples new IOS 13 is a massive stuff up. If you have multiple pages open to gather facts and flip back to the weather forum it refreshes and deletes your reply. Thank you for the update Sharjay and hope you are feeling better. YES definitely very fortunate and I am very grateful. As a builder it was not the best place to be if everything went pear shape. A lot of glass. BoM had the original dangerous cell track path a little further south so one reason for heading there. Originally I was going to head for the Maroochy Shopping Centre undercover parking. We should get a storm in the next few days. The cricket is back on at the Gabba. 1992 unforgettable hail storm Edited by user Saturday, 23 November 2019 7:27:17 AM(UTC)
