Had to go up to Toowoomba today returning this afternoon appeared to be some build ups visible through the haze on the Southern Downs.
I’ve just checked the radar and sure enough a few small showers and storms down that way.
The country is really suffering from lack of rain, every creek is as dry as. Hard to imagine Sandy Creek and Lockyer Creek which caused so much damage in 2011 have not got a drop of water in them.
Temperature in Toowoomba was 33 while it got up to about 39 out the back of Ipswich on the car thermometer.

Greg I am so over this weather. 40 degrees on Saturday, a small break from it Sunday and now heat and humidity. I hope we get a storm or two over the next couple of days. Yum!

Hopefully we may be in some luck later this week. GFS has fancied storms on Friday for several days now BOM and WATL are saying the same thing too. Chance of Precip for Friday.

I well over this weather and collecting all this data throws the severe nature right at my face.
I have used cheap weather stations from Bunnings, but I found the accuracy, reliability and responsiveness to not be too good. I am using a Davis Vantage Pro2 which is not cheap but reports data extremely well. This lets me present data on my website and here much more accurately than before. I found this through a comparison I made between the old and new station that I published on my website. Totally agree on both points. The storm on Friday is starting to grab my attention a little so I will start going through the models and keeping an eye on on it. Something has to give, just when and how big is the problem. The weather station was just a couple of hundred of dollars as my Dad who had Alzheimers kept pulling them to pieces and I would have to fix them. As he is now in a home I am looking at the higher end. It was not too bad as I was able to check the data with the Airport and Redcliffe. Cheers. I also use a Davis Pro 2, but also use old style wet and dry liquid-in-glass thermometers as the accuracy of the Davis wanders off at each end of the humidity spectrum. I also use a glass thermometer for minimum temps as again the Davis accuracy is restricted by its heat shield, which although much bigger than most others is too confining and does not allow heat to escape quickly enough overnight and with subtle wind drifts in the early mornings. I was using manual liquid in glass thermometer for the minimum temperature before I upgraded to the Davis 14 months ago. The Davis displays a clear positive bias in minimum temperatures compared to the manual thermometer. I did notice that the manual thermometer I was using was a lot more sluggish in changing conditions, whereas the Davis is much more responsive to the changes compared to my old setup. I did notice some differences between my old cheap station and the Davis also for humidity in the extreme ends of the scale, especially for low humidity. That difference is partly due to my siting (in a suburban environment) and also the accuracy of the Davis sensor. I am especially interested in data collection, analysis and publishing of this data and the Davis whilst not perfect is excellent for this purpose and much better than the cheap station I was using before. Some nice action on the range and just to the North. I had a quick look at the models this morning and Thursday looks like a possibility but Friday looked pretty good except there was a bit of a concern with a lack of moisture. I am waiting for tomorrow to see how it is all going to pan out. There is also a very high possibility for a good storm as well due to the fact that the only two storm days forecasted for a long time just happen to coincide with BoM doing maintenance on Mt Stappy. The radar at 16:11 |

Just hearing a bit of thunder over Bracken Ridge. 3 soundings of interest for tomorrow and Friday. The first 2 are for Thursday where there is an interesting slight change in wind direction from 500mb - 400mb. I haven’t seen that for some time. And the 3rd sounding which has a nice bit of moisture ealier in the day around 10:00am . Storms are forecast for later in the afternoon and evening with possibly severe storms on Friday. The TT’s are in the range of chance and severe storms in several areas. Just have to wait and see. A surface trough extends across the southern interior of Queensland leading to some showers and storms near and to the east of the trough. The trough will move slowly to the northwest while weakening today and tomorrow, with showers easing as a result. A southeasterly change is likely to move into the southeast on Friday, increasing the chances of showers and storms. Some raised dust areas are possible in parts of the central and southern interior on Thursday and Friday. Edited by user Wednesday, 11 December 2019 5:01:09 PM(UTC)

Light E to NE winds during the morning and since 3pm and E to ESE between 1pm and 3pm. |

An amazing and intense system hitting Stanthorpe and surrounds around 18:55. BoM had previously cancelled all storm warnings but to be honest I was watching the radar and thought that the Stanthorpe cell is pretty serious, I couldn’t understand their reasoning on that one TBH. BoM have issued a new warning. Latest frame Edited by user Wednesday, 11 December 2019 7:04:48 PM(UTC)

Have been watching that weather approach from the south for the last few hours. Started here about 10pm.
Some very heavy rain plenty of lightning and thunder but little wind. No hail.
Probably the best rain we have had here for ages hopefully it will green up the yard a bit.
Seems to have been some scattered good falls if you can manage to get right underneath these cells. Along the ranges appears to have scored the best.
I’ll check the rainfall in the morning.
Coincidentally, lost the internet and Fox late this afternoon apparently not weather related though.

Brilliant to get some rain. Total on automatic gauge is 9.8 mm. A moderate thunderstorm with some heavy rain. Thundering is continuing with some light rain currently. Highest rain rate was 67.4 mm/hr. Quite a light show also. A decent drop in temperature of 5 C in 15 minutes with the thunderstorm and is now currently 20 C.
Dew point fell a bit with the start of the thunderstorm whilst remaining near average (4 C in 5 minutes) but quickly stabilised at 16 C in the last 30 minutes. Relative humidity fell slightly with the arrival of the storm before rising with the rain and is now 80 %. Light to moderate wind was quite gusty with the arrival of the storm and have been S to SW since the arrival of the storm. Maximum wind gust was 54 kph before easing during the storm. |

A pretty good storm system last night. We received 2 text warnings. The 1st being around 21:40 and the second just after 23:00 Bracken Ridge we received 22 mm and had a wind gust of 73.6km/hour. I have also included some of the rainfalls around Brisbane, East Brisbane and just over the Gateway. 135mm at east Brisbane and most of that falling within an hour. Thanks for posting the images Colin. Nothing to exciting happened here apart from a sound and light show. I was stuck in an end of year school event, bored out of my mind and I got told off by my wife twice for checking my phone to see if anything was happening.

Two days of being teased by inland storms, that come close to my area, but either fizzle out or move north. Great sounding images Colin. I am quite excited about today and tomorrow!
