Disruptions to the ferry today. Sunday.
I had 155mm Friday, 150mm Saturday, and 140mm this morning and it is still raining on and off.. A nice end to our not so wet wet season.
Lots of people stuck on the PDR and food drops into Archer River roadhouse start today. Lol
Cheers

Not sure if anyone is up watching the radar it’s 10:20pm I’ve been walking around my yard with headlight we have a major flooding event happening here. My creek is way up the rain hasn’t stopped. I tipped out my gauge this arvo around 5pm and had 51mm in it I just walked past my gauge which holds 280mm and it’s maybe 3/4 full I’m waiting around to measure it because i can’t sleep with this sort of weather event happening. Pretty sure I’m going to lose a few good young fruit trees some of which have 6-10ft of water over top of them. This rain has just sat on top of us yet just to the north at daintree village looks like it’s clear !!!! Will update later or in morning |

So sorry, GT, as 28 says, crazy weather. I don't want to count my chickens just yet but it is maybe over, I think the deafening silence woke me up at 3am. Sodden everywhere as everyone else is. The pathways are lethal as Scott found out one time. The ferry needs work before they run a regular service and meanwhile, having missed our regular grocery shop we're working on the contents of the little freezer and canned foods. Hmm, canned spaghetti isn't my favourite snack though I kinda liked it when younger, with beetroot and melted cheese (partner rolls his eyes in disgust). Not many plants/trees like living submerged for days - there go my seedlings. Hearing the occasional crash in the forest.. Thought it was approaching the 1996 flood there for awhile and I'd never wish that on anyone. Edited by user Tuesday, 26 April 2022 5:35:37 AM(UTC)

Thanks for your update Dormant. Hope some of your seedlings survive anyway. How is everyone else in daylight this morning? Looks like it's dumping on Townsville now. Wondering how you went Scott. Of course, that short sprinkle yesterday afternoon with 3mm was all we had. 😁 Edited by user Tuesday, 26 April 2022 6:46:06 AM(UTC)

Wow GT , that is amazing, I would be only about 10km away and nothing like that at all here, just a bit of light rain. Good thing we didn't or the ferry would be another day closed. Not that it bothers me in the slightest, but all the whingers get a bit upset.
Ended up with 108mm this morning. 736mm for the 5 days of this event. Very nice way to end the not so, WET.
Sun's out here ATM
Cheers

Beautiful morning guys almost like winter is just around the corner!!! Rain ended up slow to a complete stop not long after I last reported. Ended up with 293mm most of which fell between 8-11pm. Flattened a few of my young mangosteens to the ground and ripped most of the shade cages off the trees, they should survive hopefully going to stake them back up. I’m at 801mm for the month which is even bigger than last years April weather event of 777mm. Is April the new wet season month ?? |

Looks like the Daintree mob got a good soaking... Down here most places were around the 450-600mm mark of nice soaking rain... Some bananas and cane down but no real flood problems... Pretty nice really and badly needed for a creek flush... Shame about the garden damage up there tropo and Dormant....I just had a fit young wwoofer dig over my annual vege garden before the rain and then covered about 25 metres square with black plastic so the rain didnt mess it up...I pulled the plastic off and its ready to go now with pakchoi, radish, parsely, basil, beans, cucumbers snowpeas and other quick growing annuals so hopefully we wont get any more torrential events...might have to make a clear plastic roof if bad weather is forecast..with the price and lack of decent vege's, I'm looking forward to some some fresh garden produce this winter... I really need a freezer filling reef trip too but it looks like no chance of that anytime soon .. Edited by user Thursday, 28 April 2022 5:02:27 PM(UTC)

Took a look at radar this morning - out of action again. But out of action all the way down to Newcastle. Found this notice on the the Broom 128km radar EDIT: Most of Australia is out except for the very southern areas. Brisbane Sydney Melbourne & Adelaide "show up". Wonder what's gone wrong. Lack of funding and lack of maintenance I guess. In 10 or 15 years we'll find ourselves back in the dark ages, literally. (Or worse...) Edited by user Tuesday, 3 May 2022 12:08:37 PM(UTC)

Interesting about the radar luckily it didn't go down with our recent rain events.
So this is not something you see everyday, for the first 4 months of the year Iam in front of the mighty Tully sugar mill by 0.2mm lol, I was sitting on 1983.5mm up until the end of april and Tully Sugar mill was 1983.3mm !!!! they have since pulled past me with a wet start to may compared to dry here but still this would be a very rare occurrence i would think.
Bunyip is way ahead of tully and probably even Babinda at this stage. Babinda still hasnt logged april data yet which I find very frustrating considering it is the wettest town in australia you would think they would be a bit more proactive and proud to send through more regular data. |

lol..."proud" to submit more data...?...
mate, maybe not everyone is as much as a fan of incessant rain as yourself..
Personally I really start to have had enough of it by this time each year..I dont mind the torrential events in Feb/March but it just wears on me if it drags on into June and July..
Anyway it looks like we might be in for another "rain event" next week with some forecasts of big totals starting again..Oh joy..!
Yasi-shak just over the hill has recorded 2401mm so far this year with the past 25 days all being "wet"..

Yeh your probably right just thought maybe out of the entire town of Babinda Australia wettest town that there would be someone there proactive about recording rainfall but I guess Iam probably one of a kind fanatical rainfall follower. Still its 2022 and so prehistoric that we have to wait a month or more to see rainfall data come through probably sent by horse and cart down to BOM in melbourne. Should be able to see up to date rainfall data for any town in Australia. Im sure over in the states you can. |

Yeah it's a pretty antiquated system that lets stations send in data months late.
They could setup google docs for each station to put their daily data into just like I do if they can't sort out their own system lol
I'm hearing you scott , don't need the daily drizzle keeping things soft and sloshy.
Cheers

We recorded for BoM manually with a properly set up gauge, but it was entered manually on a paper chart and Dad sent it in at the end of every year. Just as I was moving on they were about to set up an automatic gauge in the paddock. |
Records for 2022: 1520mm 2023: 2710mm 2024: 951.6mm (no records April-Sept) |
