Fast: oleanders.

I'd planned to have natives on my town block fenceline, and fruit trees in the back yard. That was plan A, didn't have a plan B. Oops.

Needed screening from my west side neighbour's light at nights. In desperation I planted a row of oleanders. Within 2 years they were high enough to stop most of the light, and create a little bit of late afternoon shade for the car.

I'm not a gardener. Chose oleanders because I had one at the front I kept forgetting about. It never got enough water, yet it kept surviving. Don't know how hard they are to get rid of though, whether the roots keep growing or not.

Wattles grow even faster. Are there any varieties that like your amount of rain. Life cycle is usually between 12 and 20 years.

Edit: 5.30pm - still only 1mm in the gauge for all day. Beautiful temperatures though.
