Off topic... 10 December is coming up fast. Is anyone ready to submit to a selfie and official ID to access social media, emails, YouTube, browsers, even google maps? Then submit to your device camera everywhere you go on the net forever after. That's about what I can make out. Will Paul even be able to keep this forum going? There's just our little group here, and a couple of people in SEQ and NE NSW who actually use it.

I won't be rushing in to give these grubs any info. I think it could be the end of a lot of smaller sites like this one.
I did pick up 5mm from showers yesterday morning.
Cheers

Can't see anything affecting this site. My young fella, being younger than 16 has already had to use my face to access stuff. Banning stuff like you tube from young people is just [censored]stupid. |

Crazy. Strange stuff happening at the moment.
We got down to 11°C the other night, coolest so far this year. Very dry still, the bird bath is getting even more popular now.

Bit showery this morning with similar expected till later in the week on the back of the stiff Sou-easters.. Got our main shadehouse pulled apart re-doing the floor, cleaning the ballast paths and removing moss so not great weather for man nor beast in getting that done...put off this mornings start till 9am in the hope it will dry up a bit..my 2 current french wwoofers arent particularly fond of precipitation...they spent yesrday hiking up our creek and spent some time lazing on the rocky cascade area reading books which is unusual for Gen Z these days...they also said the water was too cold for swimming ATM.. and yeah 28 something needs to be done though...FB and others are just addictive and a blight on new generations of humans.. At the range yesterday for the service pistol comp the 2 youngest members were constantly sitting there head down, hunched over. earmuffs on and busy scrolling on their phones in between every round of shoots..one is a new cop and i just look at them wondering what the rest of their life looks like when so much of their day is consumed by being absorbed with so much pointless interaction with a screen that uses your personal viewing preferences to create algorithms to maintain your constant attention.....its just madness IMO a fishing forum that used to be quite vibrant and also had numerous FNQ members 20 years back is like a ghost town these days.. i dont get it though as I have given up on all social media (except Youtube which is like my library) and de-activated from Facebook just because its all such a cesspool of [censored]and such a waste of time..I also beleive that the way the algorithms work actually restricts learning ability by limiting what you see because of past interactionscreating a type of tunnel vision of your perception of the world around you..and for many re-inforcing marginilized views of the world.. Quite strange when you consider the internet is the greatest potential learning tool ever devised..much unlike the good old days of having to sign out 2 library books a week at the school library.. at least with a forum there is some familiarity, connection and sharing of information with other members of the group without all the pointless offhand comments of social media.... Many kids will no doubt find a way around any restrictions though.. Well glad i got that off my chest..lol...and despite the rain this morning at least i am not waking up in Armidale... I imagine the Pot belly hasnt had much use this winter Bunyip..! Edited by user Sunday, 10 August 2025 8:24:12 AM(UTC)
