The atmosphere is changing quickly and so are the warnings which is typical for storms like this.

This is the water vapour loop. The second image is a quick summary of what is happening in the loop. Over in the Kimberly’s there is a low that could develop into a tropical low and one to keep an eye on. This is due to the increased water temperatures around the North of Australia.

This low is feeding moisture right across WA and into Queensland. Also a trough down South is pushing moisture into the South East of the Country mainly over NE NSW and Southern Queensland. The Red area seen on the map is dry air that is helping to push the moisture to the East.

So what this means is the storms we see on the radar will probably build into a shower/rain band late this afternoon/ evening and stick around until Sunday afternoon once that dry air reaches us. We could see some good totals and also the threat is still present of flash flooding at this point in time. Stay safe and alert.

An intense storm system tore through Walgett and Narrabri this afternoon. Walgett clocked sustained winds for 5 minutes at 109 km/h while Narrabri endured 12 minutes of strong winds from 70 -82 km/h.

In South East Queensland Dalby recorded a wind gust of 52km/h, Oakey a gust of 54km/h and Warwick a gust of 56km/h. Very mild in comparison.

Would have been a wild ride in the that little Northern pocket of NE NSW.

The latest STW. Rainfall totals just keep coming. Quite a few streets, crossings etc are flooded. Stay alert and safe.




The Bureau of Meteorology warns that, at 7:20 pm, severe thunderstorms likely to produce heavy rainfall that may lead to flash flooding, damaging winds and large hailstones were detected near the area southwest of Gympie, Pikedale and Tewantin. These thunderstorms are moving towards the east to northeast. They are forecast to affect Stanthorpe, Noosa Heads and waters off Noosa Heads by 7:50 pm and Gympie, Dalveen and Mount Tamborine by 8:20 pm.

7 CM HAIL WAS REPORTED AT SILVER SPUR AT AROUND 2:00 PM.

65 MM WAS RECORDED AT KENILWORTH IN THE 30 MINUTES TO 5:50 PM.

67 MM WAS RECORDED AT COOLABINE CREEK IN THE 1 HOUR TO 5:54 PM.

61 MM WAS RECORDED AT MT BERRYMAN ROAD IN THE 30 MINUTES TO 3:45 PM.

87 mm was recorded at Round Mountain in the 3 hours to 6:56 pm.

80 mm was recorded at Kooralbyn in the 3 hours to 6:56 pm.

80 mm was recorded at Maroochydore in the 1 hour to 6:15 pm.

80 mm was recorded at Buderim in the 1 hour to 6:10 pm.

87 mm was recorded at Mountain Creek in the 1 hour to 6:04pm.

56 mm was recorded at Nindooinbah Dam in the 1 hr to 5:30 pm.

55 mm was recorded at Upper Lamerough in the 30 minutes to 5:20 pm.

55 mm was recorded at Mulgowie Rd in the 30 minutes to 3:50 pm.

52 mm was recorded at Rockside Mt in the 30 minutes to 3:45 pm.

MODERATE FLOODING OCCURRING AT HARRISVILLE AND POSSIBLE AT ROSEWOOD SUNDAY MORNING

MINOR FLOODING EXPECTED AT WALLOON AND AMBERLEY FROM SUNDAY MORNING

Moderate to heavy rainfall has been observed in the Bremer River and Warrill Creek catchments since Friday. River level rises are occurring along the Bremer River and Warrill Creek where moderate flooding is occurring at Harrisville and may develop at Rosewood from Sunday morning. Further rainfall is forecast during Sunday which may cause further rises.

The situation is being closely monitored, and this warning will be updated as required.

Warrill Creek:
Moderate flooding is occurring along the Warrill Creek.

The Warrill Creek at Harrisville is currently at 4.18 m and steady, with moderate flooding. The Warrill Creek at Harrisville may peak near 4.30 m Sunday morning, with moderate flooding.

The Warrill Creek at Amberley is currently at 3.94 m and rising, below the minor flood level. The Warrill Creek at Amberley is expected to exceed the minor flood level (4.00 m) Sunday morning. The creek may reach around 4.50 m Sunday afternoon, with minor flooding.

Bremer River:
Moderate flooding is possible along the Bremer River.

The Bremer River at Rosewood is currently at 4.48 m and rising, with minor flooding. The Bremer River at Rosewood may peak near the moderate flood level (5.00 m) Sunday morning.

The Bremer River at Five Mile Bridge is currently at 3.24 m and rising, below the minor flood level. The Bremer River at Five Mile Bridge is expected to exceed the minor flood level (3.50 m) Sunday morning. The river may reach around 5.00 m Sunday afternoon, with minor flooding.

The Bremer River at Walloon is currently at 3.68 m and steady, below the minor flood level. The Bremer River at Walloon is likely to exceed the minor flood level (5.00 m) Sunday morning. The river may reach around 5.50 m Sunday afternoon, with minor flooding.
