27th August 2019Tomorrow we may have something to watch Tropical dip in isobars in SE QLD commences and looks to be in place for the next 5 days. Something to talk about . Noticing ACC g showing weak precip’ signal on the hinterlands tomorrow at diurnal max from about the NSW /QLD border , right up to would you believe Rockhampton latitude. I did say a weak signal..Looks stronger wednesday, thursday for lucky ones. http://www.bom.gov.au/au...harts/viewer/index.shtml

Hi everybody. Decided to join, see how it goes. Love your work Crikey. I get the feeling the forums are all getting a bit fragmented though. BOM is a tad optimistic for some stormage next few days, the cloud building happening today is encouraging. So dry. Edited by user Monday, 26 August 2019 5:53:35 PM(UTC)

Hi Slovenski, I agree, after WZ closed people scattered all over the web to different forums. From my own experience some were ok and some were pretty average, so I guess we have to find one we like and that will become the more popular one. My preference so far is this one, because it has a strange homely feel to it. (Good job WZ is closed, because they may be a bit upset at most of the wording on this forum is the same as they had). I hope we get a "dominant" forum again soon, because I love listening to peoples theories and some banter. The more people that join this one the better in my opinion, so fingers crossed. Anyway, Wednesday and Thursday. You can see that we are coming out of a boring winter period when we get excited over a couple of mm rain. BOMS WATL has two days of rain now and possibly 5mm! A bit of excitement after cool smokey skies over the last week or so.

Tuesday has a weak upper trough moving over QLD that should combine with a slow moving surface trough and therefore produce a bit of instability throughout the regions of this thread. This may produce a few storm cells to pop up tomorrow or a shower or 2. Wednesday, there is a stronger upper trough that will combine with the surface trough producing instability and a little more moisture which should give us some showers and possible TS. Thursday is still on the cards for maybe a TS but at this stage it looks very slim.
I have finally got my main computer up and running so I will be using that instead of the Ipad. I would have posted with some graphs etc but after spending hours fixing some software issues and finally tracking down the corrupted file I shut the computer down for the evening, then I realised I didn’t post any weather related obs.
Not a lot of rain predicted in these storms but anything is better than nothing. On another note they could also turn out to be dry (virga) storms. Not good if lightning strikes a dry grassy area. |

Great summary Colmait. I am excited for a drop of rain (but strange considering I was originally from the UK) and my local Rural Fire Service will be very happy for some. Fingers crossed the rain reaches the ground over the next few days.

BOM is a tad optimistic for some stormage next few days, the cloud building happening today is encouraging. So dry. Noticing Se Qld/Ne NSW is leading the way on the posts tally for the states. Mind you that was the case on weatherzone as well. I attribute that to dedicated members like yourself that post regularly. It has become quite a cohesive group over time. Thanks for your thumbs up 'slovenski'. Yes the forums are very fragmented, very sad actually. There are many choices now including social media platform like facebook and twitter. Hopefully the no of posters will rise generally to make the forum interesting. ...... Unfortunately ACC g has weakened the weak prcip' signal out back of Brisbane today. There is still something to talk about each day but on this mornings forecast friday looks the pock of the week. ..... Was kept awake by some very heavy short rain outbursts last night around midnight. 5mm in the gauge this morning at the Tweed. Was it my imagination. It sounded very tropical..Those big fat drops Edited by user Tuesday, 27 August 2019 8:44:25 AM(UTC)

Quite timely for Pauls weatherzone hybrid forum to open for the start of our first spring event. so nice to get back talking with members again Those weatherzone cloud images make you feel weatherzone has been resurrected. Some obs' to report.. Drove into coolongatta this morning and voluminous towers developing over the tweed and hinterland. Here is a snap l took at Kirra at about 11am.,Forget the date stamp,on my image it is wrong. I must change that. 1pm and we have some convective showers here. Plenty of dark color on the bottom of those clouds atm The first time l have looked at radar for l don't know how long I must add that radio forecast giving friday as clearing.?There must be divergence in the models because ACC certainly didn't agree this morning. I check again later tonight.

Hi All, Thanks for the invite and nice to see some familiar names on here. I too was invited to the Ski forum but I think this one suits me better. Hope this forum grows into a great, informative and friendly site. Pretty excited to see some storms on the radar today and hoping for a couple of drops of rain and some rumbles in the sky. Am not a winter person even though we get off pretty lightly here on the Sunny Coast, but have been hanging for spring and summer to come around again. Anyway, just wanted to say hi to everyone.

Hi Sharjay, Great to see another familiar (friendly) name on this forum. After a long and quite boring few months I am slightly excited to see some blobs on the radar. Fingers crossed for a drop of rain or two, or three!

Hail reported in Bellingen and Dorrigo NSW. The pic on fb shows the updrafts down there were pretty good. The difference in the soundings for Brisbane and Williamtown shows the reason for better storms to the south. Tomorrow should be a better day for SEQ as the stronger upper trough moves over. |

The cells around Brisbane and the North and South Bayside areas are just chocking. see what happens a little later this afternoon/evening. It is great seeing some of the old gang gathering on here. I guess today was never going to be a great day, so to hear two rumbles as good as it got here. Still, a very nice change from the last couple of months and fingers crossed for tomorrow.
