I didn't have great expectations today but it was great to see some convective action. In Brisbane you could see the cells rising before chocking and fell apart quite quickly.

Interestingly the dew point rose to 16 C during the morning, but fell in the afternoon to 11C though this was close to average for this time of year.

Managed to get a rumble of thunder at 4 pm.

We had a small shower here in the night delivering 0.4mm, so the ground is nice and wet this morning. Fingers crossed for a couple of mm later today.

There is a nice big blob on the radar skimming over the southern areas this morning. Warwick and Toowoomba may have received a couple of mm’s out of it. It is heading to the south east. So as for the North of Brisbane we will miss out. We also missed all the storm activity and showers yesterday as well. But that is the way it goes.

It was not a fizzer because some places got some storms or showers which is excellent I never have believed in that term. The only time it would be a fizzer is if there is a total fail from a massive rain event predicted and no one at all gets any rain and the event never unfolds.

Just need to wait and see how today pans out and for the 11:00 sounding.
Colin Maitland.

it is a funny day ATM. You can see where the ridge is sitting and just directing everything to the southeast.
Just going of the sounding for Brisbane, anything could fire up quickly this afternoon if it primes itself.

At 12:52 you can see by radar that the front is started to push the showers to Northeast.
Warwicks AWS recorded 10 mm to 09:00 this morning.

Just have to see if any storms can prime themselves. Very slow moving due to the week lower sheer up to the 850 mb.

It has just been a dreary and overcast day today and not particularly warm.
Fingers crossed the small rain band makes it this way. It is edging north slowly as it tracks along.

I never thought I would get excited about a radar image that looked like this! Blink

Not a huge amount of action up here in Ocean View. One long rumble of thunder and 1.4mm, but I am very happy with that, because it has settled the dust a bit.

For tomorrow BOM are saying Partly cloudy. High (80%) chance of showers. The chance of a thunderstorm. Light winds.""and possible rainfall 3 to 10mm. Fingers crossed!

It is great to hear that some of the inland parts of SEQ have got their first rains in over two months. That you for the report from the Warrego! It is great to get reports from different locations.

Some drizzle with 0.1 mm, which ended a 20 day dry spell. Not much, but at least it was something.

Cloudy for much of the day and a few times it got dark. In fact the maximum temperature of 22.9 C was reached just after 10am before the cloud starting increasing and the temperature fell. From just before midday the temperature rose again and came within 0.1 C of equaling the maximum temperature in the early afternoon. The temperature was almost near stationary for the following 2 hours.

GFS is going for afternoon showers and possible storms from early afternoon onwards

UserPostedImage

As I am still a newbie and I have read that the 500Hpa wind can help steer storms etc, can the "experts" tell me if the the jet stream winds on this 500hpa wind chart for this afternoon help or hamper anything this afternoon?

500hpa wind speed and direction

I guess it may depend on the altitude of 500hpa??? (Unless I am just waffling as I think out-loud?)
500hpa Pressure altitude

Can anyone help on my quest for learning?
