Typical... We have 9 months of almost wall to wall sushine and the one day I plan a BBQ, we have rain. Like an Xmas gift from for our lawns, there is a trough over NSW and into QLD bringing showers, rain and possible storms on Xmas Eve and Xmas day. Possibly some decent totals too, so here is a thread. Great to see some nice totals and it fall on fire areas too. Thanks for that Cantspellnarangba. Hopefully some nice totals fall for some areas that need it. BOM had storms possibly severe for us Christmas day but have now just got chance of a thunderstorm. very cloudy and overcast here this morning with slightly cooler temperatures thank goodness. Enjoy your BBQ and Merry Christmas to everyone on the forum.

Good stuff CSN. Thanks for starting the thread. GFS (I know I keep using it, but the data is free and easy to get), has been very consistant with this for the last seven days, although the totals have increased over the last 36 hours.   Hopefully there are some good totals around the area by boxing day.

It is looking quite good for rainfall but I am trying not to get too excited knowing that this is largely convective rainfall and I have done not well at my location lately when there have been rainfall around. It would to great to measure some data of wetter weather for a change rather than the constant high temperatures, low rainfall and low humidity. That would be fantastic for Christmas. For my location this is the driest first 24 days of December on record with a total of 19.7 mm exceeding the old record low of 25.3 mm in 2008. Clouds have been increasing this afternoon with the maximum temperature slightly above average. The temperature have been quite variable since this morning and rose and fell quite a dew times. The dew point rose in the late morning and have been near average and stable at 18 to 19 C this afternoon. Relative humidity have been mostly stable since the mid morning at about 50% which is a little above average for daytime humidity. Light E to NE winds with some ESE to E winds since early this morning.
Some cells developing on the western ranges on the radar. |

Severe storm warning now issued for the weather approaching the southern suburbs. Beaudesert looks to have had 30 mm of rain in about 15 minutes.
Friends who live just north of Beaudesert report heavy rain and some wind no hail there.

Quite strong lightning and intense rainfall starting at 7:49 pm with 12 mm in the last 5 minutes with maximum rain rate so far of 188.8 mm/hr. |

It continues to thunder away with the cells to my west, with light rain bringing the total currently to 14.8 mm. I am quite pleased with that, a great start for Christmas and hopefully the start of more to come. This rainfall from this storm is 75% of the rainfall received this month and at this stage is the highest daily rainfall since 26.7 mm in October. |

Most places in the southern half of the region received at least some rain with 10 to 20 mm across much of the Brisbane metropolitan area.
Some of the higher totals:
Kobble Creek 41 mm
Illinbah 45 mm
Canungra 40 mm
Beechmont 49 mm
Mt Tamborine 47 mm
Benobble 53 mm |

The thunder have returned so hopefully there is there more activity on the way. 16.6 mm of rain so far. The dew point have been rising since 8 pm though it is currently stable at 20 C which is moderately high, while the temperature have been stable at 22 C following the storm. Relative humidity have risen to 89% and have been stable for the last half hour. Winds have varied a bit followed the storm with wind direction going from E to SE following to storm by backing a full 360 degrees over a 1 hour period and backed further to N to NE where it has remained in the last 30 minutes. Benobble 53 mm A few nice gusts as well from around the place at the storms came through. Amberley 78 kph Archerfield 74 kph Greenbank 70 kph Beaudesert 52 kph At 2200 there were just over 11,000 premises without power. Have a great day tomorrow everyone. Greg

17.9mm for me here yeaterday, which was wonderful. Going through my stats for this year, that was my wettest day since 19th April! That is crazy!!!!

A light shower for a few minutes at 10:38 am with 0.4 mm, followed by a few showers with moderate falls since 11:20 am with another 8.2 mm. Highest rain rate of 54.8 mm/hr at 11:33 am.
The temperature was stable since the mid morning before falling 2 C from 11:20 am. Dew point was stable in the mid morning, rose slightly with the first shower and fell slowly with the following showers but remaining moderately high. Since 9:30 am the relative humidity has stopped falling (to a low of 82%) and started to rise with the showers and is now at 86%. Light S to SW winds, with S to SE temporarily before the first shower before reverting back to S to SW. In the last 15 minute winds are now back to S to SE. |
