Well after 11mm in the gauge this morning it settled into a fairly wet day.
Glad I got the mowing done during the week.

Its not nice rain though 28..its blustery, cold and quite miserable.....and set to get worse with a big cold front hitting down south later in the week...

Some snow as far north as the Central tablelands in NSW...and our forecast maximimum high for next Saturday is 22c....

Scott, I'd give almost anything to have at least 4 days of continual rain, no matter how cold & blustery & sheety & depressing it might be. We haven't seen anything like that since Yasi.

Temperature hasn't dropped below 9°C on my back verandah for the last few years. Woke at 6.45am today to 25 inside and 25 out.

It's still shorts & singlet weather.

I haven't checked the early morning temperatures lately, but a few days ago it was still 22 at 6.30am. Days still quite warm.

Yep, as I stated somewhere else, we have a Dry Season, with maybe two months of rain.

It's good out here. Aside from the cafe being closed, nothing has really changed. Oh, the pubs of course, but they've got one door open.

Dormant and some of the others know we're over here.

It's been a strange couple years Bunyip.

When I went south 15th January my yard was still brown, with faintest green bits. Came back one month later 16 February to overgrown green.

But barely any rain after I got back. That's a frustrating feeling. Last weekend the grass started to crunch.

Previous Wet 2018/2019 was 2 months of regular rain. Mid December to mid February. Then about 8 or so individual falls, with 2 or 3 over 20mm. It was over and gone in a blink. We did apparently get an "acceptable" amount of rain.

This season, I just missed it. No idea of how much we got either. Will have to ask someone.

Water in the creek is dwindling fast. Expect it to dry up again at the bridge.

We are still apparently on Level 3 water restrictions (since end 2017). Watering garden 2 days a week. Council is supposed to be finding another bore. The two town tanks need upgrading. One leaks.

It's quite possible it's quieter here now that when it sounds like you were here last.

The town is always fairly quiet, even when the mine is running. Of course, this latest mining company has now gone defunct, and the mining crews all gone, again... You can still walk down the middle of the main street in the middle of the day.

If it was the block the bank vault is on, then that's across the side road from the Post Office Hotel, on the group of blocks that now are part of the Hub area.

Blocks in Chillagoe are all the standard 20x50 metres. Lots of people have 2 or 3 blocks. Not quite the same as living in the bush, but a bit less work, and you rarely see your neighbours. Stand in the main street, even in the "tourist season" and there's not many cars around.

nice pic 28..beautiful colours ..I wonder if that was the same day I saw a beautiful magenta sky here as well..it was unusual for here as we don't often notice the sunsets due to having mountains all around us...

Bunyip,Didn't get out last week on the boat but sure have itchy feet ...the way the highs are now it doesn't look real likely for the next few weeks though...

Interesting you mention about a different climate...my boy has moved out of the dorms at uni and been living the house of a friends father on Maggie island with his GF....between doing his Uni course online he has been spending days with the Marine biology major GF kayaking, fishing and snorkelling..he says he can always find a spot to fish o the lee side of the island ..he is currently looking for a tinnie.....bonus for him is that he has halved his rent cost and doubled his austudy pay..the virus has been good for some...we ,he and future generations will be paying for it though...

yeah I wouldn't mind being able to grow a decent vege garden as well...

Overcast and gloomy. Had to turn the light on over the laptop...

Coolish at 26degrees (inside & outside). Feels damp 46% humidity. Looks like it will drizzle any minute, 50/50 chance... Probably maybe a 99% chance it won't. lol.

Had to buy a new washing machine a month ago. Still playing with it. Not a good day for getting things dry quickly though. Similar to last year where we had unusual cloud for the first one third to one half of the dry season. Talking to the owner of the observatory yesterday, he said even if he'd been able to open the observatory there's still too much cloud to see anything.

Grass is going brown, although still large patches of faded green. It's only been crunching underfoot the last 10 days. There's patches of green where the white flowed prickly weed is starting to pick up. People tell me I should get rid of it, but it brings in flocks of galahs, the pigeons and doves enjoy it, and so do the finches, and our crazy local guinea fowl always spend a fair bit of time pecking through it.

Guess I could get a nice neat yard, but I'd much rather watch birds and wallabies foraging. Even had *four* crows turn up at my birdbath, which is a first. They don't normally come that close to the house (still 10-12M away), usually just the one or two. Hard to catch a pic of them too. These two photos I took through the insect screening, standing about half a metre back from the door. They usually hear me turn the camera on and disappear immediately. Note one of them is hanging on to a small cane toad...
