Well it's gone from 150-250mm 24hrs ago, to 15-25mm for tomorrow. Seriously, what a balls up.

Who knows. Radar shows the rain moving east to west, yet the pressure chart shows the low having moved east from mainland to the sea.

We had 34mm all up.
2mm in the morning, another 8mm by dark, the rest from continual rain overnight.


We certainly are having a treat this year. Feel almost like a normal human being again. Haven't lived continually in such a dry environment for such a long time before now.

Flooding is likely across parts of the Flood Watch area from late Thursday.

Heavy rainfall associated with a deepening trough with embedded lows developing in the northern Coral Sea, will affect the Flood Watch area from late Thursday and into the weekend.

Heavy rainfall has fallen intermittently over the Flood Watch area over the last few days. In the 24 hours to 9am Wednesday, widespread rainfall between 50-130 mm has been recorded particularly along the coastal areas, with less rainfall recorded of less than 20 mm across the tablelands. Catchments are relatively wet and rivers will respond quickly to further rainfall.

Daily rainfall totals of 70-150mm are likely between late Thursday and Saturday, with locally heavier falls of 200 mm or more possible causing flash flooding associated with thunderstorm activity.

Riverine flooding is likely within the Flood Watch area.

Localised flooding and disruption to transport routes are likely within the Flood Watch area over the next few days.

Catchments likely to be affected include:

Daintree River

Mossman River

Barron River

Mulgrave and Russell Rivers

Johnstone River

Tully River

Murray River

Herbert River

Do they ring up the farmers/ locals to see if the catchment are actually wet? How do they tell from Brisbane?

The Townsville mayor was advocating for the reinstating of local BoM staff recently, but it seems to have gone all quiet. Its something they really need to look at for our region I think.

Think we've had 11mm in the last 4 days. Oh well, Tinaroo only has 5m to go to fill up so here's hoping.

Radar is interesting, with what looks to be upper level stuff going W to E and the lower level stuff a normal SE push onto the coast.

I used to go to Cairns every 2 weeks, for Rusty's Market staying Thursday nites. I've almost weaned myself now. It's every 5 or 6 weeks.

I like traffic lights. Roundabouts terrify me.

Yeah, been a few weeks since we went, usually leaving at 6am and getting the hell out by 1am but it had gotten worse and worse though I did prefer groceries from Coles Clifton Beach. Sure miss all the opshops we visited - I might have to pay new price for things one of these days...

I sympathise, 28, sometimes it's a treat to visit the 'big smoke' but this weather makes getting home iffy with a low slung car. I almost, I say almost, feel the isolation of those elsewhere in the world suffering from lockdowns however, remote without other people is our preference, anyway.

Hi Dormant, it's a bit iffy getting home here too, although it's only Eureka Creek at Dimbulah that will stop you. Pump Creek at Almaden goes up & down quickly.

I'm now driving an old Camry, also low slung & forget sometimes. Although highly conscious around crossings.

I find I'm usually at the Smithfield roundabout about 9.30am so miss the worst of it. I usually leave Cairns immediately after Rusty's on Friday morning, about 7.30-8am, via the Western Bypass. I look at the traffic coming in & hope I haven't forgotten anything important...

I don't think Rusty's stuff is any better than Woolies or Coles.

Woolies are quite strict on their suppliers quality, though Rusty's is probably a bit cheaper, especially toward pack-up time when the best stuff has already been bought.

Having to park three or four blocks away, has always been the biggest turn off for me.

55 mm here as of 15 mins ago. 10 mm better than the airport and over 40 mm better than the Racecourse.
My last tomato plant has turned it's toes up. The heirloom ones went a few weeks ago, but the grosse lisse's hung in a while longer. They handle having wet feet a bit better, so it seems.
