94.5mm here ..most of today has been pretty nice without much rain at all...

yeah isnt it just crazy the way the topography can make such a huge difference to rainfall...I find the 24 hr totals page on BOM very interesting reading comparing the different locations and relatively big differences in total in sometimes quite close proximity..though you usually have an idea which spots seem to cop the biggest totals more regularly...Bunyips place seems to be one of those and Yasified shacks, who doesnt post here anymore, also does, living just over the hill from me but further back into the mountains...

so what does the week ahead have in store..?...The forecasts I am looking at suggest a general drying out as the week progresses but very monsoonal right along the very top end with possibility of cyclones...

I have to go away for a week so have had to school the missus in the water and irrigation valve setup which really isnt complicated but I'd prefer a bit of rain every day so she doesnt have to go through changing things around and watering potted plants which require daily water in the event of a dry day..I tried to keep instructions simple anyway..

Lucky guy Bunyip that should make for some interesting night hunting ..I just use a shotgun with a magnetic mount under the bottom barrel and an O-light but with my horrible night vision I sometimes dont take the shot as it can bes hard to be 100% sure its a hog particularly with so much long grass and plants about ..I have a little black piglike staffy and plenty of close neighbors with dogs also ...

Yep big differences over small areas, a bunch of locals post up every morning on FB around here totals for the last 24 hours and it gives a better idea than what BOM shows for differences in small areas due to many more people posting locally compared to BOM who only have a few stations in our shire.

One good example is the whyanbeel valley BOM recording, this is located on the way into whyanbeel valley and not the actual whyanbeel valley, another guy i know who lives in the upper whynabeel valley probably less than 2km as the crow flies has big differences in rainfall. For example last year whyanbeel valley BOM recorded 5187mm the guy i know got over 6300mm, his long term average is around 3900mm per year yet the whyanbeel valley BOM is around 2960mm per year.

Certainly there are a few standouts like Scott mentions and bunyip is certainly up at the tip of the spear, along with bellenden ker bottom station and happy valley near babinda.

Hogs are everywere around the bamboo valley atm every morning on my run i either have them running across the road in front of me from cane paddock to cane paddock or i can hear them grunting in big packs right near the road in the cane.

No rain since a shower on Saturday afternoon.😑 Have to start watering again.

Like to get a few more showers in before the end of the Wet. A couple of big falls would be nice too, tide the trees over for a while.

The forecast map shows us getting a little bit - but I can feel the atmosphere has already changed, regardless of there still being humidity in the air.

Bloody radar is out, these little showers make a big hit when it is already so wet. Like to see what's coming..

I got about an hours mowing in at work this morning and only got stuck once before it rained and put an end to play.
It's a great mess with areas dead from army worm and low areas still totally waterlogged, and weeds out pacing
everything but I have to start trying to get on top of it and get it looking half good.
Probably good it rained as the exhaust welds cracked about 20mins before and it was pretty loud, so take the welding
gear and tools tomorrow and go up a pay grade :) :)

Sun is back out here so might go and put a tank through a saw and chop away at some more [censored]laying around. :)

Saw the first dragonfly this afternoon. In the Top End the appearance of dragonflies signals the start of the Dry. We get a few here, but nothing like you see in Darwin.

There's starting to be a few kites around too.

Three great days here as well. Got the yard all mowed. Just a couple of gardens to weed.

BOM saying low in the gulf, SE wind surge and southward drifting monsoon trough. It could be an interesting weather week ahead.

The mornings are glorious now.

But looking forward to some decent cloudy weather before it goes away.

We had that earlier this afternoon to the north, it barely arrived. I'd even cleaned the grit & grass clippings out of the gauge in the hope I'd be able to see one *real* millimetre, but didn't even bother to look. Only slightly cooler.


One thing I do not miss at all. If there is ever a line here, it's a great place to catch up with random locals.
