Yeah SM I'm not familiar with the night of Noah event SM...we lived in Mission beach and had no TV or computer back then...seems Townsville doesnt get it often but when they do its invariably a real ripper of an event... Love catching the spanish too mate..I always leave the ratchet on and love the sound of their runs..The missus was pretty chuffed to get a smallish one on the maiden trip in the new tinny 2 weeks back out the front of Dunk Island..  Sounds like the boy is doing great on the Barra, Ron..did you eat the metrey or release her..? mate I hope you arent venturing into the saltwater reaches in the 12 footer..lol....you are certainly keener then me...I have a 3.85m explorer tiller steer that I have been getting a bit worried about due to one croc where we fish thats always very bold and not afraid to approach the boat...so i recently bought a 4.5m higher sided side-console to feel a bit safer and to fish Hinchinbrook at night..

Haha, no the punt is for the boys in freshwater only, nah we don't keep Tinaroo barra i reckon they'd be pretty average on the tooth. We have a 490 topender for the salt stuff.
Getting some pretty consistent rain now. |

Thanks for the photo Scott. Mackerel about that size are perfect, easy to handle and great to eat.
That heavy rainband near T'Ville seems to be moving north a bit. Impressive radar down that way.
A little bit of lightning and thunder to the east of us now.

Got taken for a trip on Paradise Dam (Lakeland) with 3 burly blokes in a tiny tinny. There were freshwater crocs absolutely everywhere, you know they don’t bite humans but there was just so many of them you do wonder what might happen if you capsized.

Steady rain here too in suburbia the last couple hours or so. Had a few faint rumblings in the distance, then an almighty crack about half an hour ago. Nothing since. Just rain.

yeah i dunno..even freshies look mean and would probably still scare the pants off you if you eneded up in the water with them but as SM says I dont think they are too savage... Ron your boy must be stoked..got his own tinny and catching meteries...What a life for kids in FNQ if they are adventurous...!! well it looks like Innisfail to Cardwell is currently in the bullseye as the charts suggested..some pretty heavy stuff ATM and getting pretty squally as well..... Radar looks great where you are Scott. Just light to steady stuff here tonight so far. Had a last check of the gauge, nearly 30mm which is better than forecast. See how we go tomorrow.

One of the suburban Townsville gauges is showing 367 mm since 9am with plenty of others over 300. There has to be some serious flooding going on.

Messed up the reading somehow but it was just under 200mm so pretty underwhelming here really..shooting was cancelled and I'll give the fishing a miss as well today..
Just regular wet season stuff for us but of course the 300mm falls in Townsville create havoc..
Round 2 starting in Townsville now apparently with the main bullseye focused between Townsville and Ingham ...the radar doesnt look as intense as yesterday though..
Radar looks pretty clear up Cairns way..

30.5mm in the gauge this morning. It's quite nice weather here today so far with no breeze or rain. Even a bit of blue sky around.
We've had 550mm here in the last 7 days. Some places south of here could make a joke of that in the next few days by the look of the forecast.
YTD: 707mm
Feb: 30.5mm

Cardwell/ Ingham area seeing the most intense rain at the moment which is pretty much what the forecasts showed.....I often camp a couple of days on Hinchi during febuaury...it would be rather wild and wooly over there just now i think but it might stir the barra and bait up once it stops.... Talked to my son in Townsville and he said the rain has backed off a fair bit today so far but starting up a bit again now.... How long do you guys reckon it will keep stacking up on the coast in that area for..?..forecasts say continuing to monday tuesday..! Holy cow SM...Up to 389mm there at one station in Townsville..!!... thats about a third of their annual rainfall isnt it..? Edited by user Saturday, 1 February 2025 10:49:50 AM(UTC)

I looked it up Scott. T'ville annual average 1143mm. So yeah, around a 1/3 of their average overnight. Edit: A silly thought, imagine if Tully got a 1/3 of their annual rainfall in a day. Edited by user Saturday, 1 February 2025 1:49:30 PM(UTC)

T'vile is looking like it's going to have a real good wash.
Some station already well over 100mm since 09:00
If it sits over that dam catchment lots of flooding again down there..

Your right Bunyip, 503mm at North Ward in 31hrs. This weather scenario reminds me a lot of the 2019 flood but a bit more intense so far I reckon. Just the isolated heavy shower around here at the moment. Edit 1747hrs: Something changed on the WZ forecast for White Rock. >80mm for Sunday and Monday.
