It got to 33 here and humidity down to 16% this afternoon. The wind has died off somewhat now though, although I did receive the SMS from the council for strong wind warning.
Luckily no fires around here, so all good.

You are most welcome. I have a particular interest in analysing and publishing the stats from my suburban weather station, within the constraints of a suburban environment. I think that part of the reason I measured such low humidity is I am measuring this in an exposed location as much as I can in my backyard, but is affected to some degree by surrounding buildings etc. and also using sensitive fan aspirated equipment which was exposed at the lower extreme end of the sensor range with reduced accuracy it seems. The temperature was near stationary at around 35 C for about 3 hrs until 3pm after rising to 32 C at 10 am. Relative humidity fell slower later in the morning and fell to 1% at 1pm, where it remained at this level before rising later in the afternoon. That rise in humidity didn't last long and have been stable at around 20%. At the moment it is trying to come down again. Once humidity reached 1% the dew point stabilised at -30 C before rising later in the afternoon. It been stable for the last few hours and starting to fall slowly and still low but it is now above 0 C. Moderate N to NW winds have been going all day but not too gusty here and still continuing tonight before the front or trough gets here. Last 24 hrs graphs: |

Great graphs Falking_droplet, Thanks for sharing. It is a windy, smokey and dusty start to the day here in Ocean View. I think most of it is smoke from the fires near Woodford yesterday afternoon and it blew in on the NW wind over night. Currently a W went after the change at around midnight.

Since midnight winds have persisted today being light to moderate and gusty W to NW. Dew point have remained low and near stable since the the wind change came through. As it slowly warms the relative humidity have been falling and is down to 13% presently. Unfortunately plenty of haze but not excessively thick. |

Hi Crikey, most of the haze is basically dust. The sat. pictures shows it is a massive cloud of dust being swept from the west. This is very similar to to what happen in 2009 until the big one hit. |

Howdy Weather Punters! I saw this forum is relatively new, so I decided to join up and share some images from my new receiver, which was an early Christmas present to myself! Here is a visible image from Himawari8 from about an hour ago, showing SE-QLD in all of her dusty and smokey glory.

And here she is zoomed out, showing the low pressure system in the Tasman, which is helping to fan the flames.

No worries Satman and crikey :) Some spectacular footage came in a short time ago of a supervision aircraft followed closely by the firefighting 737 dumping retardant on the fires in the Applethorpe area - will be a welcome sight for them. Similar scenes have been played out in Tenterfield as well: Video link to firefighting 737 over Applethorpe

Similar scenes have been played out in Tenterfield as well: Video link to firefighting 737 over Applethorpe Its great to see some "heavy armory" being used to fight fire. It appears to be one of these: New South Wales has signed a contract with United States-based Coulson Aviation to purchase three aircraft for firebombing duties, including a modified Boeing 737 large air tanker. In addition to the modified 737, the contract announced by NSW Minister for Police and Emergency Services David Elliott on Wednesday also included two Citation V lead/intelligence aircraft. The Minister’s statement noted the modified 737 would give the state year-round access to a large air tanker, given an increasing number of winter bushfires in recent times. “Last fire season there were more fires during winter than across the summer months,” Elliott said. Coulson Aviation said in a statement the 737 Fireliner, which was certified by the United States Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) in as an air tanker and passenger transport in 2018, was the largest ever air tanker ever purchased by a country. The aircraft can carry 15,150 litres of fluid while carrying 72 passengers. “The NSW Government is committed to ensuring our firefighters have the tools they need year round to help protect lives and property.” https://australianaviati...tanker-for-firefighting/Edited by user Saturday, 7 September 2019 6:08:26 PM(UTC)
