Ken was talking about the great dust storm of 2009. I will post here and over in the general weather thread. This was the 23 September 2009 and the photos are as the day progressed. https://www.weatherforum.../t67-The-2009-Dust-Storm Be great if anyone help can build that thread. I will try and add the reports from BoM to it. It is a pretty big PDF for the East Coast especially Sydney. Edited by user Sunday, 22 September 2019 9:46:07 PM(UTC)
| Reason: Added some information to help build the general weather thread for the event |

Wow . Thanks for the feast Colin.
ACC g which is no doubt the Met eye forecast?
Shows a tropical dip in isobars in mid W QLD on thursday and on friday the rain signal appears as a patch on the border of the trough line which seems to enhance saturday afternoon
Noting the generally very dry trough in Eastern Australia in NSW.No tropical infeed here.,But cfr some reason ACCESS likes the conditions in SEQ .
Friday and saturday arvo look splendid at +150hrs. I am thinking ACCESS might like the moist onshore flow from the coral feeding in to this surface trough.

I am trying to build a special thread with a technical report for the 2009 event over in the general weather area. https://www.weatherforum.../t67-The-2009-Dust-StormThe report from BoM for the Southeast of Australia is a pretty big PDF file and I need some time to gather some of the main points. Be great if anyone would like to add pictures and reports etc. Yes the μg/m3 readings were unbelievably. Recently Birdsville was having some pretty bad dust storms and the readings were around 1350μg/m3 but I believe Randwick in Sydney recorded over 17000μg/m3. It was a record. I think Brisbane we were up around 9000+ μg/m3 but I need to go through and double check those figures . It was staggering though. Cheers Colin. Slightly warmer today but remaining near average, though the apparent temperature was near the temperature for a longer part of the day rather than a bit below it like it was yesterday. Near average dew point and have been stable in the last few hours. Near average relative humidity. N to NE winds today with some NE to ESE winds. A N breeze is continuing at present. |

This was from a post I made in 2009 on the Australian Severe weather forum. I think the post was from the 19 -27 of September. It is worth a read. It was full on right around Australia. As at 3.27pm Tuesday 22/09/09 I counted 39 weather warnings for Australia. It is quite an eventful day. I have posted an WZ map to try and give an idea of what is happening. There is storms, dust storms, strong winds, cold fronts, fire especially in QLD and the list goes on. Col An older version of storm tracker. Very interesting the similarities 10 years ago. http://www.australiaseve...m/index.php?topic=5372.0Edited by user Tuesday, 24 September 2019 6:25:49 AM(UTC)

It is a bit hard to describe today, apart from the word yuck. A few sunny spells, followed by cloud, followed by "it looks like it might rain", followed by a sunny spell again. Temperature wise it isn't too wonderful either and current 23°C here.

I have been looking at a few forecast charts and they keep chopping and changing. One moment they say some rain for later this week and then the next run, they say next to nothing. :-( Hopefully Ken, Colin or Crikey come along with some charts that makes us "rain wishers" happy.

Passing periods of sunshine caused the temperature to rose and fall 9 times in the morning and afternoon with typical temperature for the day. From the early morning the dew point fell before rising slowly and have stabilised in the last few hours. Relative humidity also jumped up and down in the morning and afternoon close to average and is moderately low presently. Winds have been mostly light E to SE, and now is calm. Last 24 hours: |
