Looks like a couple of days of slack-ish weather between highs Wed/Thursday and with all species of inshore mackies on the chew I reckon there may be some sickies taken...
and hopefully the pattern now is for this to continue in between the highs..
Thankfully those few cold days are behind us and my vege garden is the best its been in years..I also had some self sown cherry tomotoes come up at the end of the wet so i potted them up at the time and planted out once the terrential rains stopped and now have about 35 bearing monsters on stakes about 7-8 feet tall with a couple of newer generations coming along behind..
Aside from the winds its been a pretty nice dry season..wish they were all like this..

yeah Scott, it's been a fairly nice winter, just wish the endless gray skies would clear. Haven't really got much in the garden this season here, with the Mrs now working in Weipa I'm trying to just push everything else back and get the place where it can be left for a couple of months with out any real work needed, So it can be looked after by a care taker.
My dad is here at the moment, road his BMW 800 up from Katoomba, It's his 3rd time and probably the last big trip for his at 78... Leaving Sunday for the return trip. He's not into boating so I missed this chance, But it looked bloody great when I slipped into town.
Had a couple of misty showers earlier in the week, but not a lot in it..
Cheers

I'm sure the fella I do a bit of work for looks at the forecast and calls me when it's boating weather Missed another couple of nice days on the water.. A damp drizzly morning up here, to be expected with the show on tomorrow and Monday. The neighbours are all out getting cattle in and loading up to take in. My days plans have changed, lawns can wait now they are wet. Got a loaf of bread rising, and stuff out to make sausage rolls later & might light the pot belly and put Osso Buko on. Cheers |

No moisture down here yet but its cloudy with shower forecast for the week ahead.. We have a had a couple of nice days out on the water the past week or so and would have went again today except we hate being out with all the weekend warriors.. i'll go out to the range instead for a bit of a break now that its past June 30th and all the people trying to get there compulsory shoots wont be there.... That means it will be quiet and i can set up a couple of lanes as a shooting gallery and have some fun..

7.5mm here since 20/6/25. A very dry July so far with just 0.5mm. The Cairns Show weather was good with not much wind, warm temps and no rain. We had a couple of spots today which is a nice change. July: 0.5mm July average: 54mm YTD: 2269mm Edit: The bird bath is very popular at the moment. Edited by user Sunday, 20 July 2025 5:33:42 PM(UTC)

Looks like a good day at the range Scott Picked up 11mm overnight, didn't hear a thing Forecast is for showers most of the week, will see what comes. Yeah it's been a bit dry SM, have been thinking about my irrigation the last few days and what needs to change for this dry. I have a feeling it could be a bit drier than the last couple of years. Cheers |

Yeah awesome day on saturday Bunyip....
Range was almost empty so I set up 12-15 animals between 15 and 50 yards and pumped 300 rounds into them..double taps, rapid fire and some accuracy and fast transition work.....also set up a rifle bench and fined tuned the .22..
and yeah been sorting out irrigation points as well..it was starting to dry out but man its been a lovely winter...
Might try and get out for a mackie on wednesday..might have to take the reef boat if its a bit sloppy and wet..

And another 24mm in the gauge this morning. That's sorted the gardens for a week or so Glad that blob on the radar is staying off the coast at this stage. I've got to go and put in about a dozen pickets today and move cattle, not fun in the rain. Yeah not the best boating week by the look of things, good luck. I might have to come down for a shot one weekend Cheers |

The missus pulled the plug on fishing today at 5.30 but i was still keen...so i drove down and sussed out the beach...and then went home and hooked up the boat.
Turned out to be a absolute cracker of a day..sun came out, sea calmed off to glass, whales were frolicking and only brought home 15 mixed spotties and doggies so just 1.5 hours of fish processing...but just 1km from home I had to turn on the wipers..welcome back to the hill country...lol..
Going to smoke up some Doggie fillets tomorrow...thats a really nice way to eat them...

Wow yesterday was one of the best winters days I have seen on the water in a long time...just glassy with whales just about everywhere even cruising in between the anchored boats on Silver sands 10 metres past all the boats....No large spotty schools so far though we have been a couple od esky fulls of mixed spotty and doggies each trip...got one that went just over a metre yesterday..
Wednesday looks great again so I might see if the spotty schools are here yet..bit of weather from a high after that so maybe a week of windy showery crap..
We had 125mm this past week and doing a bit of roadworks turned to [censored]rather quickly..doing it all by hand as well with hand dug red dirt mixed with river gravel compacted plus a little 10mm blue metal scratched up from an old council pile on top... an inch or 2 would have been perfect but 5 inchs has created a bit of a mess..!
and yeah Bunyip smoked up a bit of that doggie but yeah wings of just about anything is lovely with that bit of fat in the belly area just making it so moist and taste so succulent..
The dogs have been living it up with all the skins of the keepers and unskinned doggie fillets as well..getting quite a stockpile in the freezer so the pooches should be good till xmas at least..

It's been another fairly dry month with 13.5mm, that's a total of 31 for june-july. With Aug being our driest month since 2011 it could end up being a dry winter. Temps were 14°C min 32°C max so that was pleasant. Those trips out on the water that are glass flat are amazing. I remember some though, especially in the warmer months where the fish didn't want to bite. Made them lazy I think. July: 13.5mm Aver: 58mm YTD: 2282mm Edit 2020: 12°C forecast for White Rock on Sun & Mon nights. Coolest of the year so far. Edited by user Thursday, 31 July 2025 8:30:23 PM(UTC)
