Some heavy rain overnight. 113 mm overall with about 100 mm in 2 hours.

77mm here this morning. We had a good thunderstorm yesterday arvo, about 30mm in half an hour. Plenty of lightning. Hopefully more of the same today.

Random thunderstorms seem to be the flavour of the month for the whole district..!..Humidity has been pretty heavy down here as well..
I dont quite remember such a stormy january before...almost daily we expect at some stage to see the clouds billowing over the hills behind us and some of the thunder and lightening has been pretty exceptional..
For the second time ever we had some ball lightening travel through the shack last week..I only saw it out of the corner of my eye but it scared the [censored]out of the missus and the modem blew up...
We also had around a 100mm downppour with one the storms which cause the creek to quickly rise and is keeping the ground pretty slushy...trying to get the mowing and spraying caught up is a challenge..
So when do we expect the next monsoon hit will be..?

2nd day of the month without rain here. The forecast has a low forming to the north in the next few days and then heading off to the east.
The GFS has it quite dry for the rest of the month at the moment.

Geez Scott, sounds lucky to only loose the modem, Mate in kans lost most of his house electrical a couple of weeks back
A/C's , tv's ,laptop, modem ect ect and that his was a couple of doors down he said.
Storms have been missing us , Just relentless humidity and very uncomfortable arvo's ...
Water yesterday morning going to town was like glass..
Forecasts dropping away :(

Yeah real lucky Bunyip..felt that familiar tingle where all your hair stands on end moments before the lightning ball raced across the living room..as i said ive only seen it once before but still knew straight away what it was... Anyway the good news is that a telstra guy arrived out today and as we are the only ones still on landline along here finally offered to hook up starlink for free and on a like for like cost plan... Do any of you guys have starlink through telsta or from Elon..?..is one way better then the other...? and yeah humidity is crazy...a hard slog doing hours of physical work in this...we started at 6 this morning and knocked off by 11 and go back at 4 to finish off...I needed a pretty decent nana nap today.. mornings have been good looking on the sea but with the storms around and the wind picking up before lunch we havent bothered...hard to get motivated in the heat... Too hot for most to get to the range on Saturday so i got greedy and set up 3 bays for drills, steel, and to sight in the red dot on the 9mm ..put a couple hundred rounds through the 9mm and a few hundred more of .22 and also did really well on the 50 and 75 meter blue turkey targets....Now I know the gun shoots well I'll push them out to 100 metres next weekend.. Ive attached these pics sideways in case anyone is likely to be triggered by guns or attractive women ...  I saw the young lady standing back from the cubicles while her boyfriend , his brother and their father were shooting up the place and asked her why she wasnt shooting..She said she was scared of guns and had never shot one before..said she was afraid of the recoil and noise...so i showed her my .22 and explained there was no recoil or much noise and even managed to get her to take a few shots at the yellow ducks ......she was shaking a bit but absolutely loved it so i loaded another mag up for her fixed up her stance and grip a bit and she got so confident she had a few shots of the fathers glock 9mm and also a .22 rifle...maybe I've created a monster..i dont know but the smile on her face as she left with the lads was just priceless... i reckon a lot of people that have a perception about guns in their minds might find they wuld actually enjoy some target practise if they were open to trying new things..

well 2mm in the gauge this morning, I only checked because the grass was wetter than dew. Don't know where it came from
& I'd like a bit more :)
I've got the starlink mini on a roam standby plan for $8.50 PM, it's basically dialup speeds, but good enough to look
at the weather or check emails, I have watched a bit of youtube on it with only a bit of buffering.
I get unlimited ADSL from Telstra and at the Mo that is still cheaper than starlink but it's close now starlink is offering
100gig for $80pm ... I keep the starlink for when the ADSL goes down at this stage, but am in the process of looking at all
our services and thinking about value for money. I'm paying to much for stuff I don't think I need any more..
The starlink mini on the $8.50 a month would be a good deal for you 28, with you traveling, give you phone calls anywhere.
Scott: Great job on spending the time and encouraging the young lady to have a go, I think you are right, a lot of people
just listen to all the doom and aren't open minded enough to have a go for themselves. It's like teaching some to drive
their dad / boyfriend / mum, might not be the best to bring out the best in the new recruit, someone from outside the
circle can relax them and show where they are failing in a less confrontational manner and next thing they are away, enjoying
the new found passion.
Poor thing has probably stood around a few times board shitless thinking what a waste of time, now she has the confidence to
say hey it's my turn, step aside and watch this , great job..
I was wondering if you had silly wets down there, I've made a few but not a full set yet, must get busy and do a few more.
Since moving here (4 years) I'm not shooting enough as I can't just go out the back door and shoot off a mag or 2, I need to
load up everything and drive around to a mates paddock, so it's just not happening enough.
I've just reconditioned my Xmas tree target and got that down at a mates place, good fun with a couple of leaver or pump .22
racing against each other..
Gray start to today, and very steamy walking the dog before light, had to have a second shower already.
Looks like all the weather that could of been has now gone east / south east.

The young lady looks to be really enjoying shooting the targets Scott. It must have been a great experience for her. The range looks in good condition after all the rain down that way lately. Your right Bunyip, everything is moving to the E and SE at the moment. The GFS rain map from Tropical tidbits for the next 10 days is looking grim at present.  Jan: 391.5mm YTD: 391.5mm

Could do with some more rain in Mareeba. Couple storms yesterday but passed quickly.
I do have a Starlink mini, Bunyip. Bought end of 2024 on special, paying $15. Haven't needed to use it yet. Thought I'd be travelling sooner, lol. I no longer make plans.
