It would be so good if the low stayed over water in the gulf for a bit longer, then came directly south through the middle of QLD.-and didn't head west into the territory. The models are wrong a fair bit of the time,- it'd be good if they were for this one.

Overnight had about 72mm of rain, it was on and off all day but now its quite heavy and steady. But won't last according the the radar, the last of the backbuild looks done! Hoping that Cyclone in the Gulf doesn't move west as it will take this away with it... but i feel that is exactly what will happen!!

Still no idea how much has fallen. Hope to get someone to mow the grass next week, then I might be able to get to the rain gauge... Reckon you're right about the cyclone in the gulf. :(

I managed 82mm to 09:00h this morning and another 62mm since.
My back yard has about 3" of water on it,- one of the problems when you're on 'C' class fill. It does get away, but sure takes it's sweet time.
The low in the gulf took quite a shift to the west from 05:00 to 11:00, but hasn't moved much at all from then 'til 17:00h. Central pressure at 17:00 was 1000 hPa, so it's deepened just a tad.

Only 34mm up here this morning :( Had hoped for a bit better than that. Looks like showers will continue this morning for awhile anyway. :)
Might do a killer a bit later, see how the day goes.
Have a great day folks
Cheers

No rain to speak of overnight. Our part of the region looked a bit empty on radar.
Good morning folks. That low seems to be moving a little bit to the east. Fingers crossed that it comes a bit further east. Every little degree might help.

Not sure that low will become TC Esther this morning. (What a dreadful name for a TC.) - - But it was 999 hPa at 05:00 (AEDT). Sitting on 82mm again,- same as yesterday morning. Radar showing we are just about to get drenched again, so might get bit more before 09:00h cutoff. I can almost hear the bloody grass growing. Nailing down the mowermen as to what day, gets pretty hard this time of year. Oh well.

We've just had a 15 minute storm. Bit of wind the first 5 minutes. Nice rumbles of thunder, & occasional flashes of lightning now. The rain has eased. And the power went out about 25 minutes ago. Radar indicates might be more to come. I think my fingers are stuck crossed now. Friend said we had about 10 mm in that 15 minutes. I still can't get to my rain gauge, without changing clothes... According to my neighbour we're around 500mm for January and February.
I was away for a lot of our rain, so not keeping a check this year.

only another 52mm up here this morning :( Managed to get past the meter mark, now for the next one.
@28 can't imagine there is a lot of work for a mower man out there, but I'm surprised nobody wants a few bucks, what about high schoolers ?
Cheers

High schoolers are all at boarding school, or home schooled and we never see them. The younger people are all working and have their own commitments. The older people have got too old or have died. I went to see the job agency people this morning, and they are tackling it right now, thank heavens for that. I've found my rain gauge, and I've found the garden bed, I rediscovered the old hoses I left stretched thru the yard. We currently have TC Esther crossing the coast, as I type, just SW of Mornington Island. So Queensland does get at least one TC this year, if only momentary. Oh wow,- a 7 hour cyclone !
You really outdid yourself, Ex-TC Esther. I wouldn't mind a few dry days so the yard can do a bit of drying out. My mower men are supposed to be coming back Thur or Fri, and if the rain keeps up their ride-on will be leaving wheel ruts everywhere.
I've never seen so much fruit on my meyer lemon tree. It must be loving the big drink.

I have a meyer lemon, and the quantity of fruit on it amazes me. Not as much this year, but two years ago I thinned the fruit out and removed over 100 small lemons. And there were still heaps left. It's only about 5 or 6 years old now. Actually, this year my 3 fruit trees seemed quite confused. My mango, my mandarin, and the lemon were all a couple months late flowering. By the time I saw flowers on the lemon, there were already several lemons on the tree, but medium growth, and very new. The mandarin had hardly any flowers, then it had a heap of small fruit, which then disappeared. Then it had another go at it and still no fruit. The mango had one only mango that set, but something might have eaten it as it disappeared. Although the "Wet Season" lasted a total of two months (mid-Dec to mid-Feb) plus a few incidental good falls, the skies were overcast until around June. I'd been planning to sort out my shipping container, but I didn't thinking it might actually rain. By the time the clouds disappeared the grass was dead and the winds had built up. Not conducive to the job, so it didn't happen. (That's my excuse anyway.) So pretty strange weather this last year, not surprising the trees were confused.

And it may be going to get worse. Quote:BoM Weekly Note Esther formed in the southern Gulf of Carpentaria and made landfall as a category 1 system near the Northern Territory–Queensland border yesterday (Monday 24 February). This system is expected to track westwards across the central Northern Territory (NT) and northern Western Australia (WA) as a tropical low, potentially re-developing to tropical cyclone intensity later this week, if it moves over waters off the coast of WA. And the bad news: Quote:When ex-TC Esther reaches the WA coast, monsoon break conditions will return to the NT and Queensland, with below-average rainfall and above-average daytime temperatures expected to prevail.

Deeral south were doing a bit better I think. I feel like Smithfield or the lower beaches have done well because of the northerly direction of the rain coming down the coast - almost like the opposite way of when the Tully coast gets rain along their SE coast... Big storm over the lower beaches now, BIG BIG thunder and its backbuilding but moving towards the airport and town... lightning very close to my location 30 mins ago! Roof almost bounced off the building :)
