Anyone want to buy a holiday cottage?

Been trying to sell my little cottage for about 5 years. Had a couple nibbles when they opened the borders. Hoping some panicking southerner will want somewhere to escape, when they reopen the border again.

Reckon the weather has changed in the last 2 to 3 days. It has that heavy stifling heat that can only bring storms, but doesn't. A few more clouds around in the daytime, so looks like the "build up" (as they call it in the NT) has arrived.

Currently looking grey to the south with a nice coolish breeze. Radar looking a little stormy west of Atherton & Ravenshoe, but reckon it'll go to the east of us. Looks like Dimbulah is in for it though.

Edit: Went through to the east of us. We just got a nice cool light breeze, full of grit & dust. Such is life out here.

Here's a pic. Thought it looked pretty odd for rain. No wonder I felt grit in my eyes. Smoke must've blown over from the fires at Arriga too. Could smell the smoke.

Had a good squall this morning...felt like a front moving through...

That looks brutal out there 28 and its still just October...

I really noticed the change in season a week or so back when the tradewinds dies off...a bit of easterly and northerly breeze brought an instant taste of summer..

It also bought some great fishing weather and after some successful trips the freezer is finally well stocked with Red Emperor, trout and a variety of other tasty vacuum packed reef fish....

Now we can just spend some trips diving and exploring the place..Zoe bay and falls on Hinchinbrook Island and the clam gardens of Orpheous island and the Palm group are our next destination..we would like to get to Lizard island sometime as well....we have been here 25 years and really not seen much of FNQ so finally now is the time..

Bunyip,my best advice regarding growing vanilla is to buy it from IGA....otherwise plant it on some sort of trellis structure or posts or teepee that contains the vine to a height you can still reach..my missus has planted it on some tree ferns and palms and of course it just continues to grow to the heavens..be buggered if I would be climbing a ladder with a toothpick..lol

You never know 28, our neighbour had his place on the market for 10 years and he finally sold it.

Was up the Tablelands on Sunday and there was a few good rumbles, apparently Mount Garnet copped a flogging the day before?

About an hour after we left Yungaburraba, a hail storm hit....

We had our first rumbles on Sunday arvo 25th ..

Bit of a shower last night, but lucky to call it a mm .

I think it is a case of being divided up between a few different sites, we had so many people from so many different walks of life on the old WZ, now it's a few here and a few there and a lot just don't bother at all.
It is a bit sad that the site was not offered for sale before the close as it was a huge resource with a wide range of both expert and armature input.


Could do with a storm down here, things are drying out and getting dusty.


Anyone feel like guessing when we might see a Monsoon ?

Cmon DU..we need some input from you to liven things up a bit...

I think its just been the weirdest year and many people have had a lot else on their minds...plus as mentioned nothing has been happening weatherwise...

But we did get a nice heavy quickly passing shower this morning which my wwoofers were trying to convince me was "rain"...I think I made a fruitless attempt to convince them of the difference and that a 10mm downpour really wasnt the start of the wet season.....I always find it pretty funny when 20 something year old european backpackers try and tell me that the 600mm of annual rain they get back home means they know all about "rain" and what the FNQ wet season will be like (before they have actually experienced it).

Scott123 , I always find it funny when 20 or 30 somethings from south, buy a block in the rainforest before the WET and buy mid March the for sale sign is back up and they have gone south again


As for the bridge, hurry up and build it. The Daintree has been saved. Now it is time to build the infrastructure and facilities to cater to tourists that have been sold the idea that it's a good place to go.
For 25 years the council has invested money to sell the Daintree to the world, propping up tourism marketing bodies with rate payers monies.

The council milks the tourist to cross the ferry $28 return and there is no where to pull up, no car parks , no bins , no toilets. 1 Lookout that is grown over. We need more infrastructure for all these people that come here, that sit in a queue, drive to Cape Trib , look around and drive back to the ferry queue.

Build the bridge, people will have more time to relax and look around, not be worried about getting stuck in a queue.

Then there is the yearly dredging of the river at the ferry site. The silt that is then washed down stream coating areas in acid sulphate right out to the inshore reef systems. They can only dredge when there are big tides , so lots of run.

Building a bridge is the only real environmentally friendly sustainable answer. But the bat [censored]crazy greens are too bloody stupid to see the fact.



Back to the weather. Hot and starting to get real sticky. Looking forward to the wet.
