It's all happening up your way tropo. I see another 140mm at Port Douglas today. Steady day here with 30mm so far.

Our yard has gone from brown and dead to green and a total bog in 4 days.

SM it sure is I tipped out 102mm out of the gauge earlier this arvo which brings me up to 965mm for this event and it’s been raining since. I’ve only got 60mm or so to go to crack the big 4000 for the year

Bucketing down now and has been for the last half hour or so. Heaviest continuous rain we've had in years.

Like SM, the brown has gone green, and parts of the yard would probably be bog after this.

Coming down pretty steady here for the past couple of hours now...the radar looks to be showing it moving south of Daintree finally....hopefully you guys up there get a break tomorrow so you can get stuff cleaned up and Tropo can get back to get his car...12km walk..wow...shame you obviously havent seen that Ad that used to run on the TV...what was it...?...."if its flooded...floor it" or something like that I think..Blink ..Hmmm maybe not..BigGrin..How does the fruit trees look Tropo..?..hope they all survived..

Going to be some big totals between Cairns and Tully by morning I suspect...I also dont think I have ever seen the Gordonvale area get such a drenching...wow..

Glad you are getting some nice rain too 28..what an incredible system this is for December..it feels more like Feb/march..

Looks like the Palmerstone road to the tablelands is closed for a while from landslides and the Bruce highway south of Tully could well be cut toworrow if this rain keeps up all night.

I cant really sleep much when the rain is this intense...hmmm so much [censored]on Netflix too..its barely worth subscribing anymore.

BTW, I reading about some solar/hydrogen schemme that was approved for power in the Daintree a couple of years back..has anything ever become of that..?...it seems kind of weird that conservationists were so against running powerlines through there but are happy with most everyone needing to run dirty diesal generators every day...

Scott looks like some big totals across the board some in the 400mm plus range. I haven’t checked my gauge yet as it’s still raining here and I can see my creek is way up again. Many of my fruit trees have been underwater on and off for days…… they have certainly had enough now probably will loose a few to wet feet in the coming days.

If it’s flooded floor it hahahahha I laughed out loud at that one that’s gold.

Good morning folks :)

Well it sure is the system that just keeps giving :)
345mm here this morning and still raining.

Good to see it has given some areas to the south a bit of a drink too, don't want to keep all the good stuff for just us.

Cheers

thats mighty generous of you Bunyip..cause we really needed an extra 300-400mm on top of what we already had...BigGrin

Hopefully Tropo when the rain stops it will start to dry out quickly..

Not sure what we got here actually as I emptied the gauge yesterday afternoon but it ran over during the night...also first time we have ever got the recorded phone call siren and message to go to higher ground...

496mm at the Bulgan which is the total at the closet gauge..

Whats crazy is the radar still looks just like it did last night with the stationary blob still hammering down from just south of Mossman to Cardwell and no end in sight...this is becoming almost a biblical event.

and the tradition of tying up the tinny to the front of the Euramo Pub has continued..so at least some folks are getting a bit of boating in...https://www.facebook.com/HotelEuramo

Geez it looks wet on the Coast.
Amazing wet here, hardly stopped. The gauge looks half full, just waiting for the break I can see on the radar.

Edit: 65mm

Its slowed down here thankfully, but it looks like Cairns is still getting hammered...Must be pretty wet and wooly up the Kuranda range road..

I see Myola has also had 150mm in the past 3 hours bringing their weekly total to about 1600mm so far...

When was the last time Cairns had a week like this...?

Ron i dont know how far you are from the Gordonvale gauge but but says 480mm for there so you may well have had a decent overflow on your gauge..

This is shaping up to be a real record breaker. Not that the records are all the old in some cases.
The flooding on the cairns beaches is an eye opener to all those people that brought old farm land.
Just imagine if this rain had a bit of a storm surge with it.

Still heavy rain here.

Cheers

Many monthly records are being broken across various sites around here. Looking out my gauge I will have to go empty it soon looks to be another 200mm or so in there and still coming down heavy. My sisters place down at Machans beach just north of cairns has water all through it apparently many other houses around there are flooded.

ah mate I think there is some really bad stuff happening on the Northern beachs right now...

I saw myola rainfall total go from 150mm to 300mm in just over an hour (now at 1750mm for the week)

Imagine all this hurtling down the Barron...must be an absolute mess along the flood plain.....I saw on a Cairns fishing page someone asking for a boat to rescue 4 people and 3 dogs that are trapped on a roof at Hollaways and their cars have floated away..

Its just mind-boggling really..is Tinaroo also a consideration what happens once its full..?..Will that add to the flooding ..?

and big landslides just before Ellis as well.
Landslides at palm cove blocking the hwy.

Yeah about to go empty my gauge too GT

Edit:195mm since 06:00

Cheers

Just checked the gauge at 3pm, 147mm since 9. Only require about 30mm for 1000mm for this rain event.

Not much flooding here just surface water. Went to town earlier and there's a lot of flooding in the manunda area.

Edit: That big orange yellow blob on the radar over the beaches hasn't moved all day.

Luckily most of the Barron catchment is actually below Tinaroo, so hopefully not too much of an effect..

*Just tipped out 140mm since 1030am

Yeah only a couple of K's from the Gordonvale alert Scott so you could be right..

That footage from Ellis beach is insane!

Hi All - first time posting to this forum from Port Douglas.
We've had 320mm today (to 5:00pm) since midnight.
Event total is now over 1000mm.
Lots of localised flooding. Thankfully power remains on, after a 2 day outage during Jasper.
All roads from PD to Cairns closed - likely for days.
Stay safe all.
