18mm overnight.
On the bus now, but with rainfalls on the Tableland we may not get past Almaden, and if we do we may not get over Eureka Creek this side of Dimbulah.

Have a safe journey 28.

No problems getting to Mareeba. Had to use the top crossing at Eureka Creek.
Guy from the Lappa Pub said they got 110mm overnight, and similar falls over previous days.
Fire had been through the hillsides & a couple weeks ago the cycads were black stumps. They looked absolutely magnificent today.
Lots of water everywhere, and creeks we didn't know were there.
Seems like a return to the wets of 25-30 years ago.

Thanks Weary, really enjoyed the knowledge and posts back then. Can't seem to rely on the BOM, JTWC seems to be the go to these days.

As Weary said: we're the leftovers. It was a crime to lose such a knowledge base. They should have at least offered the forum for sale.

This is on the next level up from the pool on our place which you can see down at the bottom there...its inaccessible National park from here on upstream but has some great small and larger pools and a very high waterfall about 600m further up where my gravity feed water pipes are situated though I have a permit to maintain a walking track beside the creek to get to my intake.... We seem to be getting around a couple of inches a day down here and the ground is just so saturated...it must be horribly wet up north though as I see Bunyip is close to cracking the 1000mm mark for the month already.....certainly dont need a severe cyclone now though thats the way its starting to look later next week...man i hope if it happens it hits somewhere south in a non-populated area.. Your swwamp should hopefully start drying up next week SM....

Your right Scott, it's to early for scare mongering. GFS had it going to the graveyard yesterday, this morning it has it crossing around Townsville and it will probably be back to the graveyard tomorrow.

This from the BoM at 10;45am:
"Tropical Low 05U Likely tropical cyclone impact on the Queensland coast from mid next week.
A tropical low (05U) is developing in the Coral Sea, well away from the Queensland coast. The tropical low will strengthen over the weekend, and is likely to become a tropical cyclone by Monday. The low is currently slow moving, but is expected to move on a general southerly or south southwesterly track over the weekend and into early next week. There remains some uncertainty in the movement of the system next week. However, although the cyclone remaining off the coast cannot be ruled out, a coastal impact on Queensland is now considered more likely than not. The most likely zone for a coastal crossing is between about Cooktown and Mackay, somewhat more likely south of Cairns. A severe impact remains possible, particularly if the system crosses south of Cairns. If it were to cross the coast, the system is then expected to move further south over land, bringing heavy rainfall to areas well south of the crossing zone late in the week or over the weekend. Communities on the east coast of Queensland are advised to stay up to date with forecasts and warnings."
Trying to move into my new shed from my rental shed this week, bloody tough in the mud lol. Around 20mm last night, and steady sort of light rain since late morning today. Off to check models runs now |
Records for 2022: 1520mm 2023: 2710mm 2024: 951.6mm (no records April-Sept) |
