Thanks for rubbing it in Ron... BTW be careful in the water..the missus got a nice welt across the face that remained for over a week from a piece of jellyfish tentacle last trip out..was pretty nasty.. Overcast and noticably cooler at about 30c today down here.. Just watched one of the most ridiculous debuts from an opener in the MCG boxing day test...I dont watch much cricket these days but I'm sure glad to have seen that opening session...

Lots of heavy clouds around this morning, only 1mm in the gauge so far though. Seems a bit cooler than the last couple of days.
I missed the cricket this morning Scott, sounds like it was pretty spectacular. A good start to his test career I'd say.
I hope you catch a few Ron.

Yes was a cracker little innings from the young fella. Got up reasonably early to get the floor up in the boat this morning, measuring up to try and get some more fuel under there. Looks like plenty of room just need to get it all measured up and back together by this arvo. |

That was a nice line of storms through your area yesterday 28. Lots of storm damage in NSW on the news I see.
Just back from lunch at Yorkeys Knob. Checked the boat ramp while there, the carpark was full and overflowing. You could see why, dead flat conditions.

The 2024 totals are in and managed 3940.5mm for the year in the bamboo valley. Looks like bunyip might have a another golden gumboot has anywhere beat 5656mm for the year ? |

No golden gumboot award for White Rock this year, yearly total of 3453mm and 558.5 for Dec is still good for here. No rain in the last 7 days of the year was a bit disappointing.

Just got back from 5 weeks at the Sunshine and Gold coasts. Did I miss much? (Joke). All that rain and then sunshine meant my grass was long and thick, if was real effort to mow with more time spent emptying the catcher than actually mowing. Pool wasn’t as green as I thought it would be.

5152mm measured by my neighbor for 2024 with 748mm in December...
Yup send that gumboot up to Bunyip for the 2nd year in a row..
Not a bad total for Cairns though SM and thats a surprise up your way Tropo..not even 4m there..!
So whats in store for 2025...?
I see David Burton of Inigo Jones weather predicting biblical rainfall anf flooding for Qld this year as well as a collapsing economy...
Sounds like stormy skies ahead if anything like his predictions come true....

Happy new year to everyone. Hopefully a wet year ahead. It should be an interesting year ahead Scott with what's going on in the US and an Australian Government election coming up. A bit of an unknown I reckon.

People only predict disasters etc on the web cos that the only thing that gets attention. Same with economic forcasting/reporting, the asx goes down 2% and screaming headlines “eleventy billion dollars wiped off the Stockmarket” goes up by 2% and a minor report in financial pages “markets up by 2%”

Yeah Happy new year one & all :)
Looking back at some of my records, it's hard to remember what the dry years were like, :) :) But I sure know that the last 2 years have been WET with 12195mm, seems a lot even for here.
We are entering very uncertain times, I think that is a given fact, and all these predictions and forecasts just fuel the sense of unease. Most of the developed world is being overrun with 3rd world problems & there seems no real answer or direction to ease the flow of undesirable, incompatible filth that is changing the status quo. At home here I think our biggest problems are our energy market & immigration, how have we got to the point of not having enough gas for our own use and the power mobs turning off our air-conditioning to balance out the grid. This country should have the cheapest power in the world..
Anyway looks to be another glorious day in the Far North, and it's time to get a bit done before it gets to hot. Strap in and hang on & 2025 will do as it pleases.
Cheers

It will be strange going back to the drier years. In 2016 we had 1477mm here, 1210 at the race track.
Just 0.5mm here so far this year. Storms around yesterday, looked like a good one went through the goldsborough area, 77mm at gillies lookout.

Just 7.6mm to kick the year off from yesterday's storm. Was down the front of the inlet at the time and it looked pretty speccy, although the odd clear air bolt over on the eastern ranges as we were heading back up the inlet was a little intimidating.. *edit. A little light rain and some thunder this arvo has cooled it down nicely, though won't be adding up to much just yet. Edited by user Friday, 3 January 2025 5:46:00 PM(UTC)

ABC headline, "Heatwave for Australia's South-East, monsoon absent from the tropics". It seems a bit dry at the moment but last year we only had 18mm up until 12 Jan. There's still hope. Jan: 0.5mm YTD: 0.5mm
