We got 30mm during the night from a storm a couple of nights back but as mentioned they are very isolated and it wasnt raining here this morning but we had to wait and hour or so this morning before setting up the IPSC course at the range at 8am this morning at Kurrimine..we had to even put garbage bags over all the paper targets till it stopped...the rain eventually moved off to the north and it became filthy hot and sunny but a great day for shooting.. Yeah still plenty of time SM...This is actually more what i have come to expect around here with storms through december/january and monsoon starting later in the month or febuary..December the past 2 years has been quite an anomaly.. Bit early on the barra fishing trip there Ron...Though we accidentally caught a couple off South Mission last week with my sons girlfriend catching her first ever going 75cm...she was pretty stoked.. hey Bunyip ..I agree with your sentiment entirely..i sure hope enough people realise it and vote Albo out for a start..the direction we are headed will ruin this country and just turn it into a sh!thole that so many others are becoming... Edit at 7.40...Looks like a some cracking stormage has converged over Daintree/mossman for a while now.. Edited by user Saturday, 4 January 2025 7:42:41 PM(UTC)

Yeah Scott, just checked the radar and it looks like Port Douglas is getting a touch up at the moment. Bone dry here. Edit: Doesn't seem to be any lightning out to the north. Edit 2: Rex creek intake Mossman 216mm today. Edited by user Saturday, 4 January 2025 8:27:06 PM(UTC)

Good morning weather watchers :)
Only 25mm here this morning, That storm was so close, I could see it on the other side of the river & range. If you were watching on the radar, it was breaking up as it tried to push north, that is because of the Dagmar range, that separates the Bamboo valley from the Daintree.
Yes the last 2 Decembers sure are not the norm or maybe it is now :)
Cheers

Never said anything about barra fishing Scott, nailed some solid jacks lately though, even though I still release them as well as any of the pink eye salmon bycatch.
Couple of showers have come through today, probably added up to a few mm.
Jesus 216mm is a nice little storm!

We've got up to 4mm for the year so far, it's very similar to last year's start. Winds a little to southerly at the moment it seems. Edit: Last year 5mm up to Jan 7. Edited by user Sunday, 5 January 2025 9:13:27 PM(UTC)

64mm here the past 2 days... Like a year ago we have a similar trend in localised slow moving/stationary storms and showers producing large totals in some areas where other areas closeby almost miss out... I left here yesterday in the dry and only got 3 km's up the road and El Arish and the canefields were practically underwater from a storm which had just passed heading north-east..and this morning there is a huge blob between innisfail and cairns with no doubt heavy totals around babinda..wonder if it will fizzle out or stay together and move on to cairns...? Not a big fan to be honest as Cairns and Daintree found out last year and down Proserpine way a few weeks back, 500+ mm in a day can be just so destructive...Hope you are not right Bunyip and it just turns out to be a passing cycle... Forecasts for the week ahead after today look pretty dry for the week ahead if that can be beleived..or maybe just in your neck of the woods SM... Throwing back mangrove jacks Ron...?.. ...Doesnt happen on my boat mate...way too tasty for that nonsense... Edited by user Monday, 6 January 2025 10:23:44 AM(UTC)

7.5mm here after a drizzly night. Your right Scott, this time of year can be a lucky dip with storms. The lack of rain here made for a great christmas-new year. Bit hot though. The blob is just starting to reach here, light to steady rain at the moment. It seems to be fizzling out as it gets near. Jan: 8mm YTD: 8mm Edit: Kuranda railway station had 500+mm two days in a row in Jasper. The damage is very evident at the Barron River at Kamerunga Bridge. Swept clean there. Never seen it like that before. Edited by user Monday, 6 January 2025 10:42:20 AM(UTC)

68mm in the gauge here this morning. It was good to hear the rain on the roof again. The GFS not showing many signs of good monsoon activity in the next week or two at the moment. YTD: 76mm Edit at 1008: Another 21mm since 9 in a good shower. Not doing too bad when the forecast was 0-7mm for here. Edited by user Tuesday, 7 January 2025 10:11:08 AM(UTC)

I think this pic shows the monsoon having trouble forming at the moment.

Yeah wow SM...check out those isobars hitting the QLD coast from the SE..
Looks more like a winter tradewind pattern of a high pushing across bringing SE showers and winds..
Like I mentioned before, while I'm surprised about the amount of rain in December, not having the proper monsoon set in till later in January or even early Feb doesnt really surprise me...
