Good luck with that little guage 28

Looks like cairns has cleared for now but everything is still heading south to the Rollingstone convergence zone...

I'm blown away that this event can just sit stationary down there for this long....its getting quite Jasper-like now...!!

Paluma over 500mm 2 days in a row..and Rollingstone up around the 400mm mark....and yet we went up for a nice swim in the creek this arvo...water was so beautiful...it was quite loud coming down the rapids but clear, strong and so nice..i put the snorkel on and saw that some larger rocks in there were now uncovered so that will give me a bit of exercise once the flow settles down..every time it does this I move the newly exposed rocks out and it deepens and widens the swimming hole...the JP's were out and about seeing if any bugs or food has been stirred up...

The convergent zone does seem to be extending north but we havent seen much here yet..see what tomorrow brings..

We only ended up with 90mm to 6:30 this morning, most of it from the dump last night.
Radar looks like we might just catch some more in the next hour or so.

Dumping down now at 07:55.

My phone's weather app tells me at 08:00 we'll be having cyclonic winds, if I'm reading the icons right... 😁

Edit 08:50 - Emptied the gauge of another 30mm.
So guess that was approximately 120mm in about 24 hours.

just 80mm down here..

looks like Townsville and rollingstone is fiinally getting a repreive...very close to 1500mm in 3 days at Rollingstone..!

Internet is out here apparently issues with power at the towers/exchanges or something like that..

Wonder if the blob will remain coastal and mostly in the sea or will it push back onshore..?

Mobile internet dead slow here in Cairns too.

Rain has eased somewhat here.

1500mm is A LOT of water.

160.5mm until 9AM here. Most of that fell in heavy showers early last night. Just light rain falling now.

The blob appears to be staying just offshore at the moment, on this part of the coast anyway.

Strange one the cyclonic winds 28, not a breathe here all morning.

Not a breath here either SM.

Never used weather apps before. Irrelevant at Chillagoe.

I saw the icons early this morning & thought - cyclone, how did I miss that...! But guess it must means strong winds. But misleading really.

The symbols are a bit misleading aren't they. I see there are severe storms on the forecast, maybe they are American and tornadoes could be possible.

Edit 1200hrs: Cairns looks a bit different today with the cloud cover right down at the base of the hills.

Internet is back up again ATM..even mobile data wasnt working here either 28..

The forecast ahead looks a little grim also...10 day charts showing the trough to hang about and even intensify from the gulf right across to townsville area later in the week/next weekend..

jan2521.jpg

late start to the wet but its certainly upon us now...meanwhile Bunyip is probably up there in the dry tropics catching a tan..?

By the look of those charts Scott, this weather pattern does seem to be here for a while yet. The access-g model did well with the T'ville event so maybe look out T'ville area again.

Edit 1535hrs: Rain just started here. Similar to yesterday.

The Bruce Highway at Ollera Ck near Paluma. The supermarket shelves might be bare for a bit.

I reckon that's not what the government wants to see Weary. They're always banging on about flood proofing the Bruce Highway.

Edit: Nice shower train almost lining up again tonight.

I did finally deduce that, but my first thought was cyclone. Double checked and of course nothing. None of those winds eventuated either not even a light breeze.

Wonder how long they'll take to bandaid the bridge...............

At 4.30pm-ish Coles at DFO was empty of fresh produce. Jonsson's didn't have much either. Chemist/Health shop at Manoora has plenty of dry packaged food. And a small amount of bread.

About 30mm from some heavy showers so far.

Yeah 28, yet again this event proves it's all about the south. And not even a cyclone this time.

Edit: It really is amazing that this Bruce Highway stuff is still an issue. Always was always will be I think.

Edit2: Nice big blob heading south of Cairns and good build up happening to the north.
