For people in Logan and parts of Ipswich, Gympie, Gold Coast, Redland City and Brisbane City Council Areas.

Rainbow Beach area: Severe thunderstorms are likely to produce damaging winds, heavy rainfall that may lead to flash flooding and giant hailstones. Logan and Moreton Island area: Severe thunderstorms are likely to produce damaging winds and heavy rainfall that may lead to flash flooding.

Weather Situation:

The Bureau of Meteorology warns that, at 3:30 pm, very dangerous thunderstorms were detected on the weather radar near Rainbow Beach and Inskip. These thunderstorms are moving towards the north and are forecast to affect Inskip Point by 3:50 pm and are likely to produce damaging winds and heavy rainfall that may lead to flash flooding and large, possibly giant hailstones.

Other severe thunderstorms were detected on the weather radar near Point Lookout, Amity Point, Dunwich and Tamborine. They are forecast to affect Beenleigh, Logan City and southern Moreton Island by 3:50 pm and northern Moreton Island, Comboyuro Point and Cape Moreton by 4:20 pm and likely to produce damaging winds and heavy rainfall that may lead to flash flooding.

Approximately 8-10cm hail was observed at Wilsons pocket

Approximately 4-6cm was observed at Kandanga

Earlier, 120mm was recorded at Biggera Creek Dam in 1hr

Heavy rain here from that shower / storm that has formed just ahead of the main line of storms. Just rain no hail here. Little bit of wind.

Was up at my usual spot on the ridge above the Toowong cemetery and watched the storms approach. Hopefully post a couple of photos later although not that photogenic really. Plenty of CGs as it approached.Rain easing now.

A bit of a hammering here. 41mm of rain and 49 km/h winds. No hail . Deagon just a suburb over, received 72mm.

Maybe a few showers and storms about here and there tonight and another chance of a storm tomorrow, Saturday 14th.

The storm was too coastal again with just the edge of that storm at my location with 3 mm (automatic gauge). But I was in Brisbane when the severe storm came thorough and it had quite intense rain and reasonably gusty winds.

A near maximum today with the temperature variable in the morning and afternoon. Most of the rain with the thunderstorm fell over a 6 minute period from 4:22pm with the highest rain rate of 145.8 mm/hr at 4:25pm. The temperature fell quickly in the late afternoon with the thunderstorm before becoming stable at 21 C following the thunderstorm. Dew point rose slowly during the morning before falling from the late afternoon whilst remaining near average. Tonight the dew point have been near average. Relative humidity have been near average today and this evening. The relative humidity rose sharply with the thunderstorm and became high. Light NNE to E winds in the morning, ENE to SE from the mid morning, E to NE from late morning, SSE to ESE with the thunderstorm and NE to SE following the thunderstorm. Tonight have been light E to ESE being N to NE and is now calm.

As Greg mentioned in his earlier post, the storm was not real photogenic, if anything up here in Bracken Ridge it was a bit of a scrambled mess until it pulled itself together at the last minute and gave us a thumping.

From looking out over to the airport in photo one you could see the inflow coming from the bay very clearly by the way the lower lying small scud cloud is pointing , and I believe that is why by the time it hit us then moved over the water to Redcliffe it had generated a lot of power with the 107km/h gust. The storm crosses approximately 2.5+ kilometres of water at Dohles Rocks and the outlets that opens up to the bay. It is pretty shallow water and is quite warm.

A few storms to the North around Tiaro and the Wide Bay area.

It is trying hard so we have to just see if anything can build a little further South as the evening approaches.

The temperature was a little variable from late morning to mid afternoon. Quite limited cu clouds during the day. Dew point have been near average and rose during the morning and have been generally stable since the late morning. Relative humidity have been near average today and during tonight. Light E to SE winds during the morning, E to ESE in the early afternoon, E to NE from mid afternoon and N to NE in the last 2 hours.
