Thanks for those storm posts colmait that was interesting.,I thought l heard a rumble of thunder here last night at the Tweed late in the evening. Cold here this morning .Down to 12.2 deg c You could almost describe the synoptic pattern over all of Australia ,bar the southern coast as stalled weak high pressure. Stalling often brings severe weather . I would suggest that this event will commence a warming of the mainland. With blue skies, low wind., dry air, no rainfall No onshore precipitation from ACC g for the next 5 days..  Sunday to friday at least

Wow. That is very interesting RetireWeatherMan and a lovely way to display your data. It looks like your general trend is above average temperatures and below average rainfall. For your averages do you use the Brisbane long term average, or do you use your own for your site? Very interesting and thank you for sharing.

The closest is Brisbane Airport which is 8km away with a similar distance away from Moreton Bay as my station. I do not use Brisbane City temps for averages as it is 15km away and their temps are influenced by the heat island effect and a greater distance from the sea, which add about 2 deg C to max temps. For rainfall I use nearby Lytton, which has a longer time frame, but if I am here for another 10 years or so my rainfalls should have settled down enough to use them as well. |

Happy 1st September everyone. Depending on which calendar you follow, some people class the 1st September as the first day of spring and others wait until the 20th/21st/22nd/23rd (Whenever date it is) September for the equinox for spring to start. Either way, it is going to warm up next week, so the weather can decide when spring is!

Thanks for confirming. I am trying to work out what I can compare my averages against. My location couldn't get more different from the airport or the city. I guess I am similar to Beerburrum, however that is over 30km away and I have hills behind me. I am only a couple of Km from Pabloako's OceanView weather station, whoever that is nearly 300m higher than I am, so that doesn't work either. Edited by user Sunday, 1 September 2019 8:18:32 AM(UTC)

My mate lives at Narangba and he has a home weather station. So I got him to compare with Caboolture and it was pretty close. But you have to a bit of jumping around the get everything close when it comes to rain. For some reason BoM have dropped the obs for Caboolture but WZ still are displaying them . https://www.weatherzone....au/qld/brisbane/narangba To check rainfall http://www.bom.gov.au/cg...rap_fwo.pl?IDQ60360.html and go to the Pine/Caboolture list 2nd last on the page, it is Oakey Flat Road sation. It is about the best way to Triangulate your weather. The Narangba on WZ is the Caboolture AWS. Plus the Beta BoM for Caboolture http://www.bom.gov.au/places/qld/cabooltureBetter still, I can now see what BoM are doing I just checked at there is a difference slight difference. Narangba has its own Beta page now. http://www.bom.gov.au/places/qld/narangba/. Edit. This is where it is wrong. Just checked and they are using Redcliffe. That is 14 KM away and has Seabreezes etc. I am afraid that is not going to be right. I would use Caboolture This was recently released. The beta pages. Great stuff RWM. A picture says many words. A decline in above average day temps over autumn and winter. Is that right? I have noticed the change in wind speed during the day and night this past 2 days Winds drop during darkness and ramp up during the day. Noticeable during this weak high pressure zone currently. Coolongatta obs show 13km/hr at 9am , peaking to 32km/hr at 1pm as the solar warms the land, the warming air rises and leaves an area of reduced pressure underneath. The onshore sea comes rushing in to replace the deficit or moving toward equilibrium. It is now 5.15pm and the wind is dropping again. Yesterday evening the wind abruptly stopped at 6.30pm to a weak 9km/hr http://www.bom.gov.au/pr...801/IDQ60801.94592.shtmlGreat weather today , mild and sunny,once again for tourists, the Gold coast show and Fathers Day

Did a big 4WD trip today and it was pretty sad just how little water this is from Samford, Mt Glorious and out to Esk. On the way back we went through Helidon, Grantham and out to Mt Sylvia. All the Creek beds were dry as a bone. Part of the Brisbane River that we crossed over was just about dry to the west. Just a pond of muddy water. Fortunately the main section of the river is tidal. Here is some pictures of the dry creek beds.Some farms were just brown parched land. I only could get a couple of shots as I couldn't pull over to capture the real heart breakers.     |

The last few years have seen very low mins, even down to 2deg a couple of years ago, but this year has been different as you picked out. The lowest min this year was 5.0C and the mins in general have been higher than usual. But these have been balanced by maxs this year which have tended to be lower than immediate past years. |

Wow. Things are looking dry out west and not very far west from here. I flew to Darwin a few weeks ago and saw from above that things were looking barren and dusty, but I didn't realise it was that bad. Sad to see and I hope some rains come soon, although some of the climate indicators (BOM ENSO etc) aren't looking too promising. Thank you for sharing Colmait and I hope you have a good day trip. Heat well and truly on the rise this week with temps between 6 to 8C above the average of 22C
peaking on fri.Will continue to suck out what ever moisture is still in the ground.

Looking at the forecast we may be lucky with light winds until Friday when they start to pick up. Weather.com (Google) has Friday at 31 degrees and only 29% humidity with 23kmph winds. That can't be good.

I love the daily Obs 'Retired Weather Man' and 'Falling_Droplet'. Being in Ferny Grove really reduces the minimum temps, which is interesting.
I have a fried in the Samford Valley and he is has been regularly telling me of mornings of 6 and 7 degrees, so even cooler when you go over the hill from Ferny Grove.
