Yeah that will probably equate to 0-5mm here for us in G'vale. Maybe toward the end of the month/ start of March things may change. Will certainly help with the developers for the ground works on our block of land. So over this little shoebox rental, and to top it off the greedy %*&#$ have jacked up the rent just because they can as they have renters bent over a barrel atm. But I digress.. Water temp was still 29c when we went out Friday night before the wind change. |
Records for 2022: 1520mm 2023: 2710mm 2024: 1884mm (no records April-Sept) |

Looking back on "rain events", my last memory of anything decent was arriving in Darwin to the low precursor of Cyclone George in February 2007. Just prior to that I'd driven from Cairns to Mackay mid-January pouring rain all the way. Think there might've been a cyclone off Bowen, had to spend a few extra days before I could return. There was a bit of rain around after Yasi, and we had water lying around town til early June, then it disappeared, never to return... Edited by user Sunday, 13 February 2022 11:58:06 AM(UTC)

The MJO is still doing funny things Just a waiting game now. Cheers |

It looks the Monsoon trough might finally be cranking up next week.. The cyclone chasers are getting excited by the predicted 4 cyclones at once next week.. I guess its time to empty the supermarket shelves of milk and bread...the toilet paper has been MIA around here for a few weeks already now... https://farmonlineweather.com.au/models/

Will be an interesting couple of weeks Scott. I think 4 cyclones across the top is a bit of a wet dream for the models, but you never know. Bring it on.
Cheers

Remember the Wet preceding my getting Sky Muster connected, 2015/16 I think, I was still paying Telstra $50 for 3GB. I recharged 3 times that month, ouch. There were two cyclones down each coast, and one each directly above them in the northern hemisphere. (I stupidly deleted my screenshots in a big cleanup purge.)

People, I got selected to try out the new BOM website they are developing.
BE AFRAID, be very afraid.
Think of the app with a few added “features” with completely non intuitive navigation and [censored]page design.
The worst is that the only available radar image is an slow clunky at least 20 minutes behind the present Australian wide composite image. The individual radar images are not available.

yeah Bunyip it has happened before as 28 mentions..but certainly its pretty unlikely to be 4 active cyclones at once..
Weary I just saw reproductions of the synoptic charts on FB with Oz cyclone chasers and of course old Higgins who plays up any and all scenario's to try and get his fans excited...
Rainfall predictions are minimal though ....could well wind up with next to nothing if any lows head off into the wide blue yonder...
What a big disappointment this wet is turning into...
Gee weary i hope you and others have given the BOM some constructive feedback..that doesnt sound promising..

Scott, only selected people can see the new website. I can assure you that I am giving them extensive feedback. I ditched feedback survey and got one of them to ring me… 30 minutes later I was still going. She has sent me transcript of what I said and I am now correcting it. Will end up being about 4 pages worth. The joys of being retired😁

Yes I remember the setup as well. Weary , good on you for helping them, like most things the Gov touch it will need redoing and lots more money thrown at it. Yeah Scott, this season has a long way to go to give us that satisfied feeling. Very overcast here all day. Cheers |

What the heck why didnt BOM email me about feedback. Im constantly emailing these flogs asking them why the heck its taking so long to update things.
To give you an example here in our shire (douglas shire) we have lost Mossman south alchera drive which was recording for 100 years they havent been reporting since june 2020, daintree village station has not been updated since october 2021, cape tribulation has not been updated since october 2021. The only active station that updates with any regularity is whyanbeel station. Yet when you have a look at the Innisfail area there are tens of stations active. The response i get from them is the stations are run by volunteers blah blah, ok I get that so I offered a solution to help at least for my local area to have a station installed at my place they came and visited and took photos etc sent it all off to head office in Melbourne who denied it because i was less than 5km from the nearest station (whyanbeel) yet down around innisfail there are stations bunched up everywhere. I told them i can update information as a volunteer daily if required. Anyway i get very frustrated with them im sure they have my name on a dartboard at head office and throw darts at it.
This feb is a disgrace of an effort im sitting on 245mm less than half what we should be getting for feb, this low looks like its gunna pull straight out to sea over the weekend likely leaving us with nothing at this stage. |
