There are bureau offical sites for mount Sophia and deeral however deeral haven’t updated since 2020. Edited by user Saturday, 19 March 2022 12:36:15 PM(UTC)

That looks like the end of it except for maybe a few SE stream showers..
Nice to see most areas get a good drop too..
and yes, weary, finally some torrential enough rain to flush the creeks out...the water tastes 100% better and all the [censored]has washed off the creekbeds so I am really thankful for that...not often we get till mid-march still with dry season [censored]in the creeks..
So stealing YS's figures for the back of El Arish cause I'm to lazy to replace the last gauge my missus ran over, he has has 485mm for the month and 1603mm YTD..hopefully we will still get some decent late season falls instead of neverending drizzle till august..

It really is archaic that the BoM can't take an automatic rain station and tally automatic rain records. I mean how hard can it be? Don’t even get me started on the bureau, archaic would be an understatement of the century these hacks cannot input simple data into an excel sheet in a timely fashion. How is it that backyard weather folk like myself and bunyip amongst many others can have timely rainfall data on our spreadsheets daily with up to date YTD data etc yet the bureau has so many stations that are so far behind it’s not funny. I get onto them regularly about this in my area for example Mossman south alchera drive has not been updating since June 2020, daintree village hasn’t been updated since October 2021. The answer I get from the is they are volunteers and we haven’t been able to contact them !!! Far out mate pick up the phone and keep calling them or emailing them to find out where the heck is the data, if the volunteer can’t do it anymore for whatever reason get a new volunteer heck I’ve put my hand up. In our whole area Douglas shire the only station that reports with any regularity is whyanbeel valley and of course low isles which is useless as it’s an island off the coast and not relevant to rainfall on the coast. There is no Mossman stations at all except the mill which updates months behind. It’s 2022 This stuff should all be automatic and not relying on manual data waiting for people. |

Is it really 9 days since anything happened?
We got 4mm overnight Fri/Sat but that's it. Might be time to start watering my plants.

Sigh..... Yes. Sad. Still hoping we'll get a couple more 8-10mm falls at least. But feels like the end of the wet for here.

I can't even be bothered to check my records. Saw 3 dragonflies yesterday. In Darwin that would indicate the Dry Season has commenced.

Was at a BBQ last night and a couple of people have fallen for the hype and were talking cyclone this week coming to Cairns. Sorry I just laughed :)
Managed to get under a little shower yesterday and picked up 5mm a bit more would be nice but I don't see much on any charts.
Cheers

Is there hype about a cyclone? I don't watch TV or listen to weather reports. Just keep an eye on the cloud masses over the ocean and the weather charts.
It definitely feels like the Dry has set in here. Clear blue skies. Lower humidity. Not much cloud. A few dragonflies have appeared, and I'm seeing the odd crow around.
But there's a few serious ant mounds, and no mock orange blossom, our two main indicators of rain. They get as confused as us. But there's still a lot of low pressure systems around, anything could happen. 😁

Nah no cyclone likely here 28..
I also started putting sprinklers around the place...hard to believe that...and nothing looking moist anytime soon..
Been some decent fishing weather but at $500 a tank to fill the boat its not getting much use at all..freezer is bare so hopefully fuel prices drop a bit further and we will plan a couple of days out to restock with fillets..
I'm very happy to see the end of that mid 30's temps for that fortnight or so....that was an absolute shocker..very draining for me even though not a lot got done...
Anyone heard from Dormant..?.might have to message her and see what she is up to..its such a dull weather year there is little to even talk about...

Yeah Scott is was a shocker all that heat and no bang at the end of it. Creeks are dropping quick and paddocks drying off been great for spraying but would be nice to get a bit of rain before it cools off to much.
Yeah I'm dragging hoses around most arvo's, didn't think I would need water points till later in the year, so now looking at where I'm going to put them and have to buy poly and fittings.
A very disappointing season all round, Ballina has overtaken me YTD :) just madness..
Cheers

bunyip its just madness alright i think you will find dry old weipa is also in front of you for YTD if you can believe that !!!!! Certainly they are way ahead of me. I dont even bother going to check the rain gauge lately as i just know its 0 everyday. Things are going to be interesting this year they will bring in water restrictions very early and hard around here. Im watering my most water hungry trees almost every day. It could be a complete dustbowl here by august when the cane season is in full swing, we already get lots of dust even in a wet year !!!!!
The boys at the bureau as usual are so far off they should all be sacked, if anyone goes and look at the 3month rainfall forecast for at least the last month and still now they have been forecasting 400-600mm for April for my area...... even in this next week im supposed to be getting 100mm+ according to their 3 month data. Laughable |

TC Fili is doing the usual and heading off to NZ. Apparently we had a sprinkle last night. I don't bother looking in the gauge either...lol. By the time I heard of it, whatever amount would've evaporated. It's hard to talk about the weather, when there is none. But, I still look forward to everyone's input, on or off topic. At least in the Dry we can compete for the lowest temperatures. Wondering how Simmo and Bong Water are. Everything still looks green, thankfully no dust in town yet. And, at last, *the road* is getting more work done. This last section to town, that should've been a continuation of the previous work - but when you see the amount of marble they've had to break up, I can see why they stalled. (Apparently good quality marble.) The middle section is being done as well, although the hundred or so meters each side of the grid near Gorge Creek is uncertain. And the Almaden section will not be done, not surprising. As for the boys in the bureau, I think it's the cumulative funding cuts that are the problem. We're lucky they're there at all. At the rate we're going we'll be lucky to have much left in 5-8 years time. Then again, I'm not a farmer or fisher or in a business reliant on the BOM. You notice the cuts with the ABC, not as polished as they used to be. And apparently 000 in South Australia is struggling, which is literally a disaster. Its certainly frustrating that a day or 2 ago the forecasts were for relatively fine weather for the next 7-10 day window, so i get a couple of backpackers in yesterday for a fortnight of post wet season cleanup work then I look at the forecast again and its all showers ahead including days of heavy showers next week and a couple of planned fishing trips for later on next week look to be off now with the wind predictions increased... Bloody BOM and ABC needs something done and i dont just think its about money..

I think they need people back in the office and less computer issued forecasts. Yeah it really changed over a couple of runs, but it is easter so a wet week is pretty normal. Went for a run in the boat yesterday, no run off at all in the normal spots to look for a fish only stayed in the river but very quiet. Lit up a pile last night and it burnt well, just restacked this morning and it was starting to pick back up but the rain has come now could of waited till this arvo. Cheers |
