18mm in White Rock in the last 3 days. You're right 28, feels a bit like autumn at the moment. Showery stuff. The GFS is back on about that low coming across from the gulf. I suppose we'll just have to wait and see what happens.

22mm here today :) 30mm yesterday :)
Not big totals but it is keeping the place soggy as all get out.
Looks like the monsoon is set to return in the coming days with possible big falls.
It sure is shaping up to be a good wet, as March and April are traditionally wet wettest.
Still plenty of time for a whirly too.
Somehow I have managed to get shingles, so can't do much but sit and watch the weather:(

7mm overnight. Pretty painful those shingles I've heard. The yard is very damp and boggy here as well. Seems as though the wet season hasn't got out of second gear yet. Lots of rain days and no big rain events.

Loving all this rain.
29mm at 6am this morning. Brought the total for February so far to 278mm.
And ... Total for the year ... 1000mm.
Don't think I've seen this much rain in Chillagoe. I've been here 13 years in May. This is more rain than we had the season of Yasi.

we have had bugger all rain last few days and im very thankful for it, wet spots in yard only just starting to dry, looks like innisfail is copping a pounding today, bout time they got it instead of us up here |

Yes, eased off considerably here too. Only 6mm this morning, despite rain on & off thru yesterday and overnight. Warm & muggy now.

108mm in White Rock overnight. Very unexpected really. The forecast rainfall had fallen away a bit. Nice falls down around the Cassowary Coast area.

Been down at Wongaling beach this week (wet arse shithole), got home last night and looked to be under an inch in the gauge. Got round to measuring this morning after a good night of rainfall. 104.8mm |

Huge weather event here I ripped out 15mm yesterday arvo and my 280mm gauge was near the very top this morning will add it all up later still raining. Question for you guys my rain gauge supposedly holds 280mm. The lid which has the cone where the rain drips into the 25mm funnel right well the water in the outside container was higher than the bottom of the cone. I’m trying to get my head around how this works does that mean my gauge was overflowing and my data corrupted? I just don’t understand how the outer container is able to continue filling once it gets higher than the bottom of the cone where the water enters? As long as the water doesn’t overflow the large clear container you are all good. Water always finds a level so the water being higher than the bottom of the cone doesn’t matter. In fact, the water being higher than the bottom of cone shows this is happening, the water is going into the container to get the higher level, if that makes sense. Looking forward to the final reading. A mate of mine couldn’t find a place in his garden where he would get a clear reading. He put the cone up on his garage roof and had a hose running down to the reservoir where he could get to it. Worked a treat.

Thanks weary mate that makes sense it was prolly a silly question math and physics is not my strength. So unless it overflows the outer container I’m good for future reference thanks.
Still waiting for the rain to stop to add it up looks like another 20mm or so in there since I tipped the gauge into another container to measure when it stops |

Another thing with those large rain gauges. I got the @#$% with measuring out the water in the large container into the 25 mm container 10 or more times to get a reading.. Then I noticed that the circumference of the cone and the large container are the same. So all I do is take the small container out, pour its water into the large container and then measure the depth of all the water in the large container with a ruler. Bingo.

river is up again.
Bloody internet is down again , and can only just pull enough service to hotspot from my phone. :(
This pain from shingles is something else, but I think I'm coming out the other side of it.
GT , your gauge is right till it's overflowing the funnel, if it seals on the tube.
if it's flogging down I just run out with a bucket, and bring it back inside to measure with the inner tube.

Weary that’s very clever mate well done. Bunyip yeh normally I do that too, last night I was walking around at 2:45am checking my creek and looked at the gauge and it still had a fair way to go so I left it this time then went back to sleep. Woke up at 6am from a message from dad at wonga saying his gauge had overflowed out there 280mm+ so I quickly ran out and saw mine nearly at the top. Luckily the cone was still sealed like you say so tipped it onto container now waiting for it to stop to measure it all. Still pouring going to be well over 300mm for the 24 hours for sure Edited by user Sunday, 26 February 2023 8:04:12 AM(UTC)
