Might be nothing but the rain is picking up again and a strange round shape on the radar near Norman reef at the moment.

72mm here...pretty tame event for us so far and weatherzone predicting 10-20 mm for us at Tully over each of the next 2 days... Which kind of contradicts tha fact that the centre of the low is now south-east of Cairns and moving south which should put us in line for the sort of rainfall that Cairns has been getting, shouldnt it, while Cairns to the north of the system should start to dry out a bit..? What am I missing ..?..is this low expected to just peter out today or head south- east taking the rain away from the coast ..? Nice rain for Cairns so far though.. and interesting comment about the weather knobs..how does someone with no training but a passion for the weather have the balls to call themselves an expert, start a weather page to tell people the future and start charging for the service .....and plenty of clowns actually willing to actually give them money to do it...?......Thats what gets me... anyway main heavy rain looks to be between Cairns and Babinda and slowly drifting south ..Babinda totals will be massive for this event after 200mm and 300mm back to back days already... We just had a nice rainband come through down here with more to come hopefully.. Edited by user Wednesday, 29 January 2025 9:59:23 AM(UTC)

222mm here this morning, that's 404 for the last 2 days. The low looked good on the radar near Fitzroy Island earlier. Quite menacing really. If the low keeps moving south you should have a very wet day ahead Scott. It seems to be moving slowly at the moment. YTD: 612.5mm Edit 1055: Rainfall just picking up a bit again here. Edit 1055: Rainfall just picking up a bit again here. The past few days sure have made up for a slow start to the year for you SM... and wowsers that reddish yellow blob has been smashing down between Gordonvale and innisfail for at least a couple of hours now and is moving so slowly that there is bound to be some massive totals coming and flash flooding galore...57mm for us in the last hour and we are only just beginning to come into the edge of that blob...Hmmmm..maybe some of these crazy jasper-like forecasts might be closer to the mark then we think come tomorrow...... Unfortunately there are no up to date live gauges for babinda or bellenden ker, the rain has been coming in there huge amounts, From some of the stations around there from Weather underground im seeing over 1621mm for just near babinda for january so far with the majority of that falling in last two days. One station just to the NE of fishery falls reported 620mm last 24 hours and another 117mm since. I imagine when babinda post office finally reports in we will see massive data however I think Bellenden ker lower station would beat them all but data for there is never complete. |

We thought we'd pop out to Gordonvale woollies to pick up some supplies. Definitely much wetter here than when we left home. A good gusty SW breeze blowing as well. The low must be still off to the SE.

Hi, tropo do you have a link to those stations..?.. The reddish yellowish stuff on radar is approaching my place now...I only hope it moves through faster then it has been to the north...Tropo that 737mm in 27 hrs near fishery falls is something i'm happy to not see here.. I already just ran down and pulled out a footbridge that spans my little creek here just in case...cane bin sides are heavier then i last remember..I'll have to start back in the gym and finish the bridge off properly so I dont have to pull it out anymore.....

I was working in Atherton this morning, but bolted around 11am after checking the Peets bridge cams. Just made it back through by about 30 minutes. |

https://www.wunderground...01-29/2025-01-29/monthlyScott try that link, if you have a look on the little map you can move around and see all the other stations in the area, there are a lot more of these stations around in peoples backyards then there are offical BOM ones. |

Clearing up here now..low and rain seems to be quickly moving offshore...fizzling out real quick..!
Just 97mm today so far and didnt even get a creek flush-out so thats pretty dissapointing...
Over 200mm down the road at Tully though..
Thanks Tropo..some very large falls up around Babinda way in the past day and a half,huh..!
How longs that peets bridge stay over for...Looks like a pretty big catchment area up that valley...?

Strange looking radar again Scott. Everything moving away to the north. GFS saying it is all going out to sea, reform and come back in again. We'll see. Thanks Ron. The Mulgrave does seem to drop quickly after the rain stops. Edit 1940: Amazing that it's raining again, only lightly. Normally when a low goes south that's it for a while.
