From the latest update:
Location: within 20 kilometres of 18.9 degrees South 146.4 degrees East, estimated to be 55 kilometres northwest of Townsville and 160 kilometres south southeast of Innisfail.
Movement: west at 23 kilometres per hour.
Tropical Cyclone Kirrily is tracking generally west southwest and is crossing just to the northwest of Townsville as a Category 2 system |

Dumping rain right now, for quite a while so far. Good lightning and a bit of thunder. And one almighty bolt went down the other side of the Bluff, and the loudest longest thunder I've heard. Wonder how Scott is doing. Edit: 50mm so far at 11:10pm. Lots of sheet lightning still. Thunder has quietened down, and the rain is just easing off. No wind at all, only the slightest of gentle breeze now and then. 55mm in the gauge this morning. 50 of that fell by 11.10pm last night.

Well that was interesting.
A very light sprinkel fell here at some point but nothing to record.
Winds from the west since yesterday arvo, but nothing wild.
Just love how every one of these systems is so so different.

Nothing on the radar, then realised there was a very light drizzle.
2mm in the gauge and still the light drizzle continues.
Will check again at 9am. If it clears up after that anything in there will evaporate...

We ended up with 26mm for the event, apparently Redlynch lost some power and a couple of old fences as well from the downslope winds. |

It actually sort of rained after I checked the gauge and at 9am there was an extra 5mm.
The lightning bolt that struck in Kirrily's storm the other night struck the hospital and took out all their communications. Hospital fine. Think it hit a satellite dish. Queensland Health is so stingy they're stuck with Sky Muster which doesn't work in storms...

Bloody thunderstorms....we had a big grumbly growler a way out the back today then all of a sudden I heard the router blow up and that static-y feeling in the air followed by a very close lightning strike...bugga we just have internet through the phone now till we get a new one after the weekend and no TV as we it comes through the internet but uses too much GB... Must have been a Cat4 thunderstorm as it did more damage then Cat 3 Kirrily..

What a fizzer highest official wind speed I’m Townsville region was 107 km/h @ Alva beach south of Townsville. Townsville itself didn’t even reach 100 km/h despite some flog on channel 7 saying 155 km/h bullshit. Bom need to be sacked barely a cat 1 and they had it as a cat 3 right up until crossing.
This is a joke, some people in Townsville carrying on like they were experience cat 5 on Facebook cringe worthy. Mate down in Tassie I have been there many times my wife is from there I have experienced legit 156km/h winds there measured at bureau sites. Winds over 100 km/h are not uncommon at all down there they don’t even call it anything just a front or whatever coming through no one bats an eye lid. Have a look throughout the year at matsauker island station which is a light house only just few hundred metres off the south coast of tassie now that is a windy place cyclone strength winds frequently.
These cat 1 and 2 up here are a joke the amount of drama and carry on, cat 3 and up are the real deal. |

To back this up I just checked the Bureau observations for tassie for today and matsuyaker (spelling) Island recorded a gust today if 126km/h and mount Wellington 130km/h and no one will hear anything of this hahaha what a joke these would be cat 2 strength winds up here and is significantly more than anything Townsville just went through. Anyone who is reading this now I recommend you scroll through todays observations for tassie and have a look at all the highest gusts for
Today many up around and over 100km/h and this is common |

5mm - from the "rain" yesterday morning after I checked the gauge.
Nothing on the radar again this morning, only to see there's the faintest misting "rain" so faint you barely know it's there.
Checking the radar again and there's the odd white bits flashing in and out.
As for winds troppo, the North gets 2 or 3 cyclones max a year, sometimes we don't get any. Yet Brisbane region gets those sudden damaging storms multiple times every year. Obviously not the wind speeds you're mentioning in Tassie, but trees come down, roofs are torn off, & tens of thousands lose power every time.
I still remember Sydney storms, watching the branches of the willow trees blow horizontally for hours.
