Ended up with 63mm for August. That leaves about 325mm in the next 4 months to get 3000mm 2 years in a row. I can't remember that here before.

Well the first shower crossed over as I was walking the dog, cold, wet and very windy.
Forecast looks like showers for a week or so.

No showers here yet..just a blustery 20 knots of SE wind so far..and it looks like a pretty crappy week ahead..not great dog-walking weather either bunyip...my pack much prefer the couch or bed during inclement weather though they been enjoying daily creek swims the past week or so as its started to heat up..... I was sitting in the tinny yesterday watching a croc on the bank when a boat slowly came past with 3 guys throwing lures into the snags and caught a nice 82cm barra only a hundred metres from the croc who was more interested in catching some rays.... Hopefully the weather will improve and I can get down to Hinchi during october and catch a couple.. Did you used to have a .243 SM..?..I can attest the ammo is pretty expensive at $2-3 a round but as you know its a very versitile hunting calibre...and basically with factory ammo you have to use a brand and load which shoots well rather then just buying the cheapest....I have been shooting some different ammo at the range lately and its really surprising how much the zero and size of the groupings can change with different ammo on different rifles.. My son and I have to go down to Western NSW shortly to sort out some family stuff...while I'm down there I hope to help my Uncle clean up some pigs and foxes on his property which apparently are pretty thick ATM....I might take my .243 and the new .17 although I'll keep in mind Bunyips experience with high speed small projectiles and grass runoffs when spotlighting foxes....I'll probably regret not taking the hornet but we will see how it goes.. Anyway a couple of stray marchies have started to appear so I imagine a bit of rain will start the annual hatch again very soon..hopefully I'll be away for the worst of it.. Fairly gloomy and windy here last night and this morning. Disappointed to only get 2mm in the gauge. With 30kts forecast for the Cairns coast tonight, hopefully a bit more rain on the way.
I have owned a hand me down shotgun and a kiddies air rifle Scott. My brother is into the high calibre stuff, he had a 243 and a 308. I am mainly into fishing not shooting. My favourite rifle was my uncles 22 lever action winchester. The 243 is a powerful gun I must admit, I looked up an old K Mart catalogue and they used to sell 243's, amazing. Anyway have a safe trip.

Still blowing, have lost a few corn plants, I've tried to stand them back up and pack a bit of dirt around them but I think it's a lost cause.
Just not having much luck in the garden this year.
Picked up 22mm this morning.
Yeah Scott, few marchies starting to sneak around, and not the best walking weather, managed to stay dry this morning, but only just.
I've heard reports of big pig numbers in some areas down south after a few wet years, Good luck with the foxes and maybe even a few bunnies
I really miss knocking a few bunnies over and young ones make a great feed. What area are you heading to ?

57mm here for the past few days.. yeah things were certainly different back in the day SM...I used to love poking the old army disposal stores and shops that sold cheap ex military semi auto guns and ammo.. had to hand back half a dozen after Marty had his shootout at Port Arthur....just one crazy guy changed everything... Bunyip...the farm is in the Warialda/bingara area of NW NSW...an old mate of mine from my teenage years, when we used to go camping with his grandad who was retired and used to trap and sell bunnies around town, works for the Dept of Ag down there...they occasionally do chopper shoots and demolish huge numbers of porkers but not near enough..he still loves to get out onto our family farm pighunting and fishing for Cod and yellowbelly on the Gywdir river of which there is 5-6 km's of frontage to..I just dont get down there often enough and havent had a rabbit stew for decades unfortunately...its a lovely meat isnt it.... Took the little .17 rimfire to test the zero today...I had it mailed up from SA in a crappy cardboard box but it looks like the leopold scope didnt get knocked around too much...Once i get my new glasses and can see properly and I'm not shooting in 20 knots of gusty wind out at Kurrimine beach I'll be able to get it even more accurate at 100 yards I reckon....pretty happy with it already and surprised given the conditions...200 yard group was about 6cm grouping and 6 inchs low which was better then I thought in a howling gale.. i had a few shots with a fella's .357 magnum revolver as well which was fun..

yeah you'd have to be happy with that target in the conditions Scott, nice shooting.
you should have plenty to knock over in that area from reports I've heard. And as it warms up it'll get easier to find them
on the waters, or closer to the river.
3/4 grown rabbit cut up and crumbed is better than KFC , lucky to have access to property with river frontage, those inland
slow waterways are so different to our coastal rivers, and catching a few yalla's in the arvo with a few tins is what life
is all about.

Showery, cool and windy here the last few days. 18mm for the first week of the month. I checked my records and in 2021 we had 161.5mm on the 1st of Sept so there is a chance of good rain this time of year.

Doesnt look like much change over the next week or so..the tradewinds seem to be hanging on for a while longer yet..
Yep..spending an hour or 2 down under the willows and callistemons and river red gums with a hand line with a live crayfish or worm on the hook is a great way to finish a hard days work out west..
Just the sounds of the parrots, cockies, galahs, occasional crow and sheep and cattle is pretty relaxing..
The property is located at the junction of 2 main waterways and was a soldier settlement block for my great grandad....also have a 12-15 acre dam/lake stocked with fish..
Fond memories indeed but the one downside with so much river country is maintaining flood fences and then general fences after the bigger floods..I'm sure you know about that Bunyip...

Back out at Chillagoe for a couple days. Hot and dry. Cool nights & very cool fresh mornings. Windy on and off. Nice to be in open spaces after where I've been staying in Cairns. End of the week heading south. At least it will be warming up.

Scott, sounds like a great place and one of the better blocks that were allocated, I'm sure your family have put lots of
themselves into over the years to make it what it is today. It's not easy county down there. Yes I know about flood fencing
lol , but at least down there it's not EVERY year, just seems like it when you get a few good years ..
I keep saying I need to go south, but never seem to get it sorted, got so many places and people I should catch up with, but
life gets in the way and it's hard to get out of FNQ.. lol

Quite a bit of sun today with only a couple of very light showers.. I also find it hard to leave my little patch of turf but will enjoy a road trip with my 23 yr old son this time.. Where you off to first 28..? The worst thing about fences down there Bunyip is because of the sheep, hingelock fencing with a single strand or 2 of barb on top is used which is a total nightmare once a flood and debris knocks it over...Do you have frontage to the Daintree river..? Just the 2mm here in the last 5 days. Looks like another major high 1040+hpa coming across so more wind could be on the way.
Good luck on your journey 28. I stayed in Armidale for a night in winter years ago and it was very cold, about -3°C from memory. Plenty of frost in the morning.

Thanks SM. Armidale should be starting to warm up by now. It even snows there...
I wish this wind would stop. It's just this time of year. Seems worse here in Cairns than it ever did in Chillagoe.

Yeah 28, really warming up down there....  -1 and 0 c minimums to start next week off and maybe creeping up to 15c for an hour or 2 in the middle of the day at Armidale.......  Not much warmer where I'll be a few hours west of Armidale in the low single digits overnight..think I'll have to pack some winter woolies... Its been a particularly bad wind year up here 28...probably the worst I have ever experienced..

Haha I'll survive. I've got my ugg boots and merino clothing. 😁😁 And a good jacket.
I've got a friend who moved out to Bingara a couple years ago, suggesting I move out there - noooo way.
You WILL have to pack some winter woolies. It's cold enough here in Cairns right now at 6am. Had to add a blanket last night.

Yeah 28 its a pretty brutal climate down there...
Warialda -Bingara area has one of the most extreme temperature variances in the country
Winters can reach close to -10c and summers up to 45c..
I normally wouldnt go this time of year but its a neccessary trip ..Still looking forward to seeing family though..
Anyway hope everyone stays well and its a change in season when I get back...
Keep us up to date on your travels 28..

Just checked in at Bowen. WINDY as anything all the way from Cairns yesterday. Lots of traffic, apparently beginning of the school holidays...
Early morning light shower and a bit of light rain on & off as I left Cardwell this morning. But dry overall it seems, creeks were dry.
