We had a fast moving thunderstorm at about 2230hrs last night. Good lightning with 31.5mm in about 1/2 an hour. One close house rattling strike got our attention. Lots of blue sky here this morning.

It looks like the run of humid northerlies is coming to an end. Forecast is for SE on the weekend. 10-15kt on Sat, 15-20kt on Sun. Edit: Cairns-T'ville update: Cairns Aero 1598mm T'ville Aero 2397.6mm. Very strange. Edited by user Friday, 4 April 2025 7:14:21 PM(UTC)

Crazy that rainfall around Townsville...I think I read now over 3000mm there already now...and they were still getting high intensity rainfall storm as of ajust a few days back..I guess Cairns had their turn last wet season and Townsville this time around and yet just same/same old for Tully in the middle...No doubt we will get our turn sooner or later.... Anyway with the change of season it doesnt appear the rain will let up anytime soon..

Just the 7.5mm here in the last 8 days. Forecast of 6-50 mm for tomorrow so things could change. The weather has been more pleasant since the SE arrived. It's a way off yet but an interesting forecast chart from access-g. Apr: 52mm YTD: 2116.5mm Edit: April average here since 2011 is 223mm so some catching up to do yet. Yeah weather is much nicer since the SE breeze showed up. It's been an interesting season that's for sure, SM you have been ahead of me up till the last couple of days. I'm only on 104mm for April and my avg over 20 years is 520mm so a long way to go. I feel I'm about 750mm behind for avg here, and then look at Townsvile area go.
Picked up 59mm here this morning, very welcome as I've still got my bore pulled up and the little tank was getting low. I've got a new 22500lt tank here, that I need to sort a base out for, but have been to busy.
Got a new sheet of form ply to put a new floor in my tinny this week end, last one lasted about 8 years or so. Have heard about some composite stuff, but I'm sure it would be $$$ ...
Stay safe on the roads folks
Cheers

Interesting rotation just off shore. I noticed it at daylight, and it's a bit more noticeable now. Just a small eddy , but interesting.

About time you guys had a dry wet season Bunyip..i think you have a had a good run the past 3-4 years up there.
I got a new aluminium trailer for my middle tinny so i have been mucking around setting that up..it has a ply floor that the previous owner did tell me what the gritty sealant coating was on top but i cant remember..anyway its lasted for donkey's years but its a bugger to clean slime and blood off...
I also noticed that rotation this morning...water temps up at Agincourt reefs only dipped below 30c a week ago so there is no reason, if the rest of the conditions are right, why SM's chart cant happen..I hope not though..

Scott I just staple outdoor fake grass to the form ply, & make sure I paint the cutouts for the ribs. Only downside is this time it's only 17mm, some know it all at bunnings said that is all they make, But I know the last sheet wat 19mm..
Yeas it is a bit of concern seeing a whirly on the charts late, as I'm looking forward to getting stuck back into this place now it has cooled off a bit, just need it to dry out a little.
Cheers

I noticed the swirl too. Centre seemed to be over Norman Reef early today, and looks like it could be over Cairns.

Bunyip, in my reef boat I just use loose marine carpet over the chequerplate floor and it makes it so easy to remove and clean and then replace the square when it looks shabby...
For my smaller tinny I think I might try carpet with velcro around the edges to hold it in place but still easily removeable so you can just hang it up and blast with water...

That little eddy on the radar yesterday looked good, we were on the southern side so rain looked promising. Just the 1mm this morning was a bit disappointing.
Your right Bunyip, it must be very rare that Cairns' rainfall is ahead of the Daintree area in early April.
The aluminium trailer sounds like a great idea Scott, no more rust.

Plenty of sunshine here this morning with a good SE breeze. Just the 2mm in the gauge.
The GFS is hinting at a drier end to April at the moment.
