So true Weary, I don't check the tides since I got rid of my boat. Apparently the advise is not compulsory.

In true Chillagoe form, none of the rain bands have dropped more than a spec on skin. Mid afternoon, there were a few short nice cool gusts. But it's stayed pretty quiet, at least for the time being.

Chillagoe is included in the "Warning zone", so outside is clean and tidy, and hopefully after rain (if we get any) my decks will be nice and clean. Neighbours haven't bothered that I can see.

This thing is decidedly slowwww, I feel for you all on the coast -- waiting waiting waiting.

Didn't bother measuring the nylex this morning, however we have managed to rack up 15.6mm to 530pm today, so that's something. Wind a slowly picking up to SE trade strength.

Your right 28, definitely a waiting game. I haven't bothered to take down the shade sail yet. Could regret that tonight though.

Showers are getting a bit more frequent now.

Edit: Just checked the nylex Ron, 18.5mm here so far.

Midnight. Mostly quiet and still. But then a lovely fresh breeze will spring up for a short while. Still no rain. No stars, strange that...BigGrin

Checking JTWC Warning 31 updated around midnight, the crossing looks like it might be closer to Cooktown???

Looking at DEA Hotspots, there's still fires surrounding Chillagoe. Two and three days old, so the smoke has settled. There's still fires all over the place.

As expected, wet and breezy this morning. Not too bad though. The rain seems to be picking up a bit now. 55mm in the gauge here.

I did end up dropping down the shade sail last night.

Well 25mm this morning. Managed to walk the dog between showers just after light.
Get the odd stiff breeze but no real wind or rain yet.
Yes Weary it looks like a bit of a dip south now.
There has been a total over reaction to this system. The ferry closing yesterday when it could of still been running this morning.
The evac warnings in Cairns. And some of the reports in the media are just crazy.
When we get a real system nobody is going to listen because they over played this one.

Off to do a bit of weeding in the rain :)~

Cheers

Agree with that Bunyip..

I cant believe the overhyped nature around Jasper...

In reality there will be some tree and branchs down and some places will lose power...but its the Wet Tropics in the wet season and the creeks around Cairns will likely get a great flush-out.

Higgins and these infuencer clowns have a lot to answer for..he had headlines of "Cat 5" and other sensationalised garbage in between many posts of how to subscribe for more detailed information...and then they get picked up by the Mainstream media and even sometimes interviewed as "experts"..

There is going to be a lot of mouldy bread and spoiled milk around Cairns in the week..

meanwhile 62mm here so far from the occasional rainbands which also bring squally winds between long periods of hot and still weather..

It certainly does Weary. The 8.03am BOM track has it crossing south of Wujal Wujal. So does JTWC just not quite as far.

Zoom Earth has some interesting commentary. To be found when tapping a dot, there's a yellow hazard icon on the speed list, if you haven't already found it.

Still hasn't rained here. Haven't watered for 2 or 3 nights, oops. Radar keeps me thinking it will dump on us, but it dissipates. Chillagoe force field? Will be interesting to see what the wind does. Be a pity to get the wind and no rain.

It must be starting to get a bit squally for our Daintree folks..hope it moves through quickly and doesnt mess the place up to bad...edit..BOM has it moving at 7km/h...man what a pain that is...!

Is there much wind in cairns or just squally rainbands..?

We have had 82mm so far from this event from succesive rainbands..I see Boulders has over 200mm...

and looking at the radar..Jasper is dragging a lot of moisture along behind it even way out past Willis island so it looks to be a pretty wet time ahead for everyone north of Innisfail or so..

I'd say you are in line for some good falls overnight too, 28...

Well myself and SWMBO are hiding in the bathroom like the emergency text said to do (IMMEDIATELY) . Can we come out yet. The weather on the Gold Coast is really quite mild. 🤪

The airport readings of 38kt is probably about right here Scott. The stronger gusts are occurring with the heavier rainbands. 34.5mm since 9 so nothing torrential yet.

I was a bit surprised with that message too Weary.

Edit: Up to about 70mm since 9 now.

Yep I reckon Max 35knots today, if that. Looks to be maybe 75mm in the gauge for the day so far. Honestly we'll get a decent blow one day and people will laugh at these media muppets.

*Edit: We have lost power, sometime around 430pm, no idea why, but it is Gordonvale.. Anyway Jenny has all the fridges and netflix up and running 😀

We have been copping some pretty solid winds here in the bamboo valley north of Mossman for many hours now, I’m a bit Suprised to be honest we getting more than I expected, certainly nothing like the media is telling though cringe worthy.

Had 27mm overnight and tipped out 107mm so far since this morning that was a few hours ago I’d estimate we are over 150mm by now. I’d say bunyip might pull some huge numbers by tommorow.

Thanks for the update Tropo...I guess as you guys are in the southern eyewall you are getting the strongest winds and most rain..When you own an acreage it doesnt really matter if its a cat 2 or a cat 5 if it messes up your trees and gardens then its still very annoying and time consuming to clean up....

Given that its still only moving at 10 km/h its going to be a wild and wooly night ahead for you..dont do as i saw a fella in Cow bay do and stand outside under trees whipping around filming broken tree debris..he will probably be the same bloke that cranks up his genny indoors...BigGrin ...

Yeah Ron it only takes one tree to bring a power line down and blackout a whole area..its already been happening a few times locally and we are only getting pretty innocuous gusts down here in the south....good news is 500 ergon field crew have assembled really to hook in tomorrow and get it restored ASAP before Cairns folks freak right out and spoil their frozen bread and milk........

Hard to believe anyone living up here wouldnt have a little genny anyway..

Guess it doesnt really affect the residents north of the Daintree river though does it..?...

Meanwhile its getting hairy in Kans...

Hi Everyone. Great to read your posts. Been wondering what it's like for you all on the coast. And Daintree.

Grand total of 2.5mm rain about midday today. That's it.

Some nice breezes every now and then. No *wind* to speak of yet. Today was the third day without watering my little food patch, so just had to do it. Can almost see getting wind but no rain, at the rate it's going.

Stay safe everyone.

Edit at 9.30pm
Still no rain, no wind yet. Such a nice cool evening.
If you didn't know a cyclone was coming, you'd think everything is normal.
Oh, yes, I ended up watering the food patch. I'd been waiting for the rain these last few days.🙄

Edit at 14/12 5.50am
Hope everyone fared well.
Non event here after all. Woke at 5am to some very nice rain. Don't think there's much in the gauge though. But it's almost cold at 26.3 degrees. lol.

Edit 9.55am
25mm rain at 9am. On & off light sprinkling mostly.
No winds at all. So much for being included in the Warning Zone...
