13.5mm here this morning, showers seem a little heavier than yesterday's all day drizzle.

I see my closest BOM guage at Bulgan Creek has had over 100mm in the past 4 days....we havent had that much here though.

I'll have to set my rain guauge up again as it sounds like things are ramping up a bit later next week..so much for the lovely couple of weeks of dry....

and I have got my new hubs, calipers, bearings and rewiring the electric/hydraulic brake unit and controller in the car done and motor and boat and gear is all ready to go finally..geez i hate doing all that stuff but its done and i finally have working trailer brakes for the first time in 5 years so that will be a relief out on the highway..the missus will no doubt find something else to complain about now...

I hope you get the concreting done before the next rain event SM...I imagine everyone is trying to rush in their outside work while they can..

What size is your block Ron...have you built a nice big shed on it..?

It looks like a small break in the showers coming up, that would be nice as the driveway gets poured on Tuesday. Hopefully.

Good to hear SM..I have a few building projects to get done as well but I'll wait till we are in the proper dry season first..

and yeah its getting windy alright..we went for a spin out on the water yesterday in a solid 15 knots with metre and half steep almost-breaking waves once we got past the protection of the islands..

We ended up just spending the morning trolling the shoals out by the shipping channel for one single Doggie mackeral as it was too rough when we tried to anchor and fish....nice day out, though thank god for a decent set of clears and we didnt have a problem finding a park right beside the ramp.. .only saw one other boat out wide and none at all on the mackeral grounds...

Be interesting to see whether we get much rain out of this windy weather change in coming days..

Yeah doozy of a high alright...apparently tassie recorded its 2nd coldest day ever at -12.9c if reports are correct...

This rain is kind of weird too...some quite heavy but short showers with the last one being very torrential..

Anyone else see reports on the ocean kayakers rescued from east of Hinchinbrook island yestereday..?

There is a local company that lives just up the road from us that take people on a kayaking and camping adventure through the local islands and then along the ocean side of Hinchi..

They just completed a 4-5 day trip in the past couple of days but were smart enough to finish before the weather really blew up...

However these other 2 clowns braved 20-30 knot seas to try and paddle the ocean side of Hinchi and got into trouble and let off the EPIRB, luckily being rescued by a passing Tall ship...

This high-related weather event and winds were well predicted..you just have to wonder what some people are thinking..

Blowing 30, gusting to 40 knots out the reef today...think I'll give the fishing a miss this weekend..

31.5mm here this morning, cool and wet overnight. Looks like it could be a standard soggy underfoot Cairns Show again.

I've never been on the outside of Hinchinbrook Island but I'm sure it wouldn't be nice in those conditions, gusting to 45 knots at Lucinda last night, crazy people. A good job done by the young rescuers on that tall ship though.

Just a sedate half inch overnight...it sure was a decent rain day the night before Bunyip...something about an upper level low from the north-west meeting the SE tradewinds in our area..rather unexpected for july though I think..we didnt really need it either..

SM if you do ever get a chance to do a trip from Lucinda to Zoe Bay on the ocean side of Hinchinbrook island then grab it..the 3-4 day hike from one end to the other is supposedly unreal too but a bridge too far for these weary old legs ..

Photo is midway along the channel but Zoe falls along the ocean side is amazing also...you wouldnt be surprised to see dinosaurs strolling along the foreshore..

but like those kayakers may not have realised its close to 80-100 km's to get from Cardwell to lucinda by going out around the island...so you are a long way from help if you get into trouble and its tide restricted for rescue boats to get out both ends...But its a real pristine piece of nature with incredibly diverse geography and range of animal life particularly birds.. Definately my favourite place to visit along the East Coast..Since cyclone yasi I have camped on the northern end every year except last year...will be going again in october..

Absolutely. I was lucky enough to go with a small group I worked with in the mid 1990s. Absolutely worth it. I hadn't done much walking when I did it, and it was easy enough.

What a beautiful photo. So peaceful. Always love driving past and soaking it in.

When will this wind stop??? Yes, we get wind every year, but I don't remember getting this irritated by it last year. (Don't like wind very much...😬😬)
